The ' plate 'glass window, of
Polly's store were smashed Wed
nesdaynot by burglers, but by
aTatttttS awning frame. Both large
glasses were completely demolished.
Twenty people, were killed in
railroad crossing accidents in North
Carolina during the first four
months of 1940.

Dies In Rome, Ga.
News lias, been received here by
Mr. John M. Moore telling of
the death "of her" brother," J. Wil
liam Bryson, (:, in Koine, Ga.,
Tuesday, night at 7 o'clock.
A native' of Macon county, Mr.
l!ry-n wa the son of the late
J. K.; and .Margaret Higdon Bry
son. He was widely known
throughout this county. lit was
district manager of .the . Metropol
itan Life Insurance company in
Rome. .
Funeral services were" held in
Rome., at 5 o'clock Wednesday
afternoon 'at the First Baptist
church, of which he was a mem
ber. Surviving are his widow,' the for
mer Miss Helen Cundy., ..'of Boston,
Mass.; one daughter, Mis,s Mar
garet Bryson', , of New York ; five
sons, Cundy, James, Burton, Har
ry and Don,' all of Rome; their
grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs.
John M. Moore, of Franklin;
Mrs. . W. Briggs, Albany, Ga.;
Miss Mary' Bryson, Kissamee,
Fla. ; and Mrs. R. A. Henry, Qjai,
Calif., and one brother, the Rev.
Joseph A. Brysori, Columbia, Mo.

J. Thomas Tilson
Passes Thursday, May 2
J. Thomas Tilson, 58, died at
his home, in the Buck Creek sec
tion of Macon " county Thursday
afternoon about 5 o'clock. He had
been ill for two months.
Mr. Tilson, a well-known farm
er, was born and reared in the
Buck Creek community,, about 15
miles southeast of Franklin. He
was the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Abe Tilson and a member of
the Buck Creek Baptist church.
The funeral services were held
Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at
the Buck Creek Baptist church.
Officiating were the Rev. Oscar
Nix, and the Rev. Frank Reid. Bur
ial was in Buck Creek cemetery.
Surviving are his widow; three
children, Claude, of Buck Creek ;
Mrs. Edith Brown, of Otto, and
Mrs. Charlotte Barnes, of Buck
Creek; three brothers, James, of
Cornelia Ga., and Burt and. Jake,
of Gneiss; two sisters, Mrs. Callie
Roane and Mrs. Catherine Gibson,
of Gneiss, and five grandchildren.

Henry Lon Ammons
Funeral services for Henry Lon
Amnions, 66, were held on Sunday
afternoon at 3 o'clock at the
Clark's Chapel Methodist church.
The Rev. Phillip Green, pastor,
officiated and burial was in the
church cemetery.
Mr. Ammons died at his home
in the Prentiss community Satur
day evening at 6:30 o'clock, fol
lowing an illness of one week with
influenza. -
A native of Macon county, Mr.
Ammons was the Son of the late
William and Martha Ammons. In
1901 he was married to Candace
Henry, who survives. He was a
member of the Ellijay Baptist
church. ' . ;
Pallbearers were : George Buch
anan, Charles Brown, Frank Brown,
Harvey Vanhook, Woodrow Brown,
and Roy Vanhook.
Surviving are his widow; "one
daughter,. Dorothy; five sons, Gor
don, Eldon, Fred, Carl and.Frank;
one brother, Ervin Ammons.
