The Rev. and Mrs. Joseph A.
Bryson, of Columbia, Mo., an
nounce the marriage of their daugh
ter, Doris, to Kay Anderson, of
Franklin.7
The wedding ceremony was per
formed on Friday evening at 7:30
o'clock at the Larigren hotel in
Asheville. The Rev. Dr. John Vinos,
Missbmi State Evangelist, of Kan
sas City, Mo., officiated, using the
impressive ring ceremony.
Mrs. Anderson the eldest daugh
ter Of the Rev. and Mrs. Bryson,
was becomingly attired in a cos
tume of navy blue crepe with ac
cessories of navy and white. Her
corsage was of pink rose buds.
Mrs. Marie Brendle, of Asheville,
who was matron of honor, was
dressed in salmon pink.
Charles Stewart, of Franklin,
acted as best man.
Mrs. Anderson attended Mans
Hill college at Mars Hill and the
University of Missouri. She is a
very popular member of the young
er social set of Franklin, having
spent the past winter here.
Mr. Anderson, son of Mrs. Sue
Anderson and the late Luther And
erson, is connected with the Narita
hala Power .and Light company
and 1,4 a member of the Franklin
Lions club.

After a short wedding trip Mr.
and Mrs. Anderson returned to
Franklin where they ' will make
their home.

PEEK-BRYSON
Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Peek, of
Franklin, have announced the mar
riage of their youngest daughter,
Miss Meda Ovclene Peek, to Bill
Bryson, also of Franklin. The wed
ding ceremony was performed at
the Baptist parsonage in Spartan
burg, S. C, Sunday, June 16, J939.
The Rev. j, C. Baker, pastor of
the First . Baptist church, of Spart
anburg, officiated. .
The. bride was attired ' in a
fuchsia ensemble with black ac
cessories. Her corsage was of white
rosebuds. She is a graduate of the
Franklin high school, For the past
three years she has been employed
as chief clerk in the Work's Pro
gress administration office in
Franklin.
Mr. Bryson is the son of J. B.
Bryson and the late Airs. Bryson.
He ,is a graduate pf the Franklin
high school and has been employed
as assistant project superintendent
of the. Work's Progress Adminis
tration here for the past five
years. .- ' . . -,
. The couple will make their home
in Franklin. .
BAPTIST SUNDAY SCHOOL
CONVENTION TO MEET
The Macon County Baptist Sun
day School Convention will meet
on Sunday afternoon, May 26 with
the Pleasant Hill Baptist church, it
has teen announced by Paul Swaf
ford, president.
The program is scheduled to
open at 2:30 o'clock. Following
the roll call and reports from the
various Sunday schools, Miss Eddis
Holbrooks, of West's Mill, will
speak on the "Daily Vacation
Bible Schools." The Rev. C. G.
Welch, of Tellico, will use for his
theme,. 'The Extension Depart
ment" The Rev. Lester Sorrells,
of Franklin Route 2, will talk on
"The Sunday School's Responsibil
ity for Witnessing and for Per
sonal Work."

Lyman M. Straine, of Sacramcn
to, Calif., is spending a few days
with his. father, Monroe Straine
and Mrs. Straine. at their home at
Gneiss. Mr. Straine is visiting his
native State and county . for the
first time in 23 years. He attended
a convention of the Council of the
American Institute of Accountants
in New York last week.
Miss Mary Elmore, of West's
Mill, spent the week-end visiting
in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Mrs. George Conley and grand
son, George Stevens, have return
ed from Macon, Ga., where they
visited Mrs. Conley' s husband, who
is working in Macon.
Clarence E. Cole returned to
his home in New River, Tenn.,
Saturday, after spending a week
in Hayesville on business and vis
iting relatives at Rainbow Springs.
Lawrence Plemmons returned to
his home in Asheville Sunday,
after "spending the week-end with
his; son, Herman H. Plemmons
and Mrs. Plemmons, at their home
on White Oak street.
Mrs. R. M. Rimmer has returned
to her home on Bidwell i street,
after spending two weeks in Tit-
ton, (Ga., with her mother, Mrs.
John Rigdon and other relatives.
Rev. L. B. Hayes, of Greensboro,
spent. Monday night visiting his
mother-in-law, Mrs. Sam L. Rog
ers, at Rogers Hall.
Mrs. Gilmer Crawford spent the
week-end in Brevard with her hus
band who operates a restaurant
there.
Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Bryson,
Jr., and three children left Sun
day for Durham where they will
spend several days with Mr. Bry
son's father, Judge T. D. Bryson
and Mrs. Bryson.
Herbert E. Church : left Satur
day for Pittsburgh, Pa., where lie
will spend this week' on business.
He was accompanied to N asheville,
Tenn., by Mrs. Church, who will
visit relatives and friends."
Miss Josephine Weaver has re
turned to her home at Hayesville
after spending several days with
Mr.w and Mrs. Sam Mendenhall.

fined to his room since Saturday
suffering from the effects; of a
severe cold.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Bradley '
and three children, and Miss Mil
dred Cabe, left Saturday for
Washington, D, C, where they
will spend several days. They also
plan to visit the World's Fair in
New York before returning home
Mrs.- Joseph Ashear left Sunday
for Ojai, Calif.; where""shewill
spend two months with her par
ents, Mr. and Mr,s. R. 'A. Henry,
She was accompanied to Atlanta
by Mr. Ashear, who returned
home ; Monday.
Miss Virginia Ramsey, daughter
ot Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ramsey,
of Tellioo community, was named
editor of the 1941 yearbook at
Asheville Teachers college. Miss
Ramsey has been attending this
college for the past three years.
Mrs. Howard Duncan and two
children are visiting" Mrs; Duncan's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Holt
in Demorest, Ga.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas . Nichols
and young son have returned from
Florence, Ala., where they visited
Mr. Nichols' parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Douglas Nichols, Sr.
Mrs. Woodrow' Reeves has re
turned from Clayton, Ga., where
she spent .several days last week

The Intermediate Girl Scouts met
last Thursday when a poster was
made for the librarv. The hour
for the meeting has been changed
to 3 o'clock.

REV. AND MRS. J. A. BRYSON
HONORED IN MISSOURI
The Rev. J. A. Bryson, former
pastor of the First Baptist church
of Centralia, Mo., and now dis
trict missionary of the Audrain,
Callaway, Little Bonne Femme, and
Mt. Pleasant Associations, and Mrs.
Bryson, of Columbia, Mo., were
honored at a banquet and special
services at Centralia when., about
250 out-of-town people and the
local congregation- of the First
Baptist church gathered in an expression-
of appreciation for the
work of the Rev. Mr. Bryson dur
ing the past 10 years.
Rev. and Mrs. Bryson were
presented a chest of silver, a
month's vacation to be taken at
their choosing and a check for a
month's vacation. All of the funds
for these gifts were sent in by
the 81 churches on his field of
service. Mr. and Mrs. Bryson are
expected to spend their vacation
with relatives in Macon county,
their old home, where they have
a wide circle of relatives and
friends who will be interested to
read of the fine service they are
rendering.
DISTRICT MEETING AT
ST. AGNES CHURCH
At the District meeting of the
Woman's Auxiliary of the Epis
copal church held at St. Agnes
church last Friday Mrs. . Frank
Bloxham ' was appointed director
to fill the unexpired term of Miss
Clara Holmes of Asheville, who
resigned on account of illness, Mrs.
Ben Woodruff, president of St.
Agnes Auxiliary, made the address
of welcome.
The meeting opened with a serv
ice of the Holy communion cele
brated by the Rt. Rev.' Robert E.
Gribbin, assisted by Rev. Frank
Bloxham. More than SO members
and clergy attended. Reports from
the eight branches represented were
read and brief talks by officers
present; Mrs. Howard G. Eth
eridge, president; Miss Mona Can
nell and Miss Lucy Fletcher of
Asheville; Mrs. May T. New of
Gastonia; Mrs. W. H. Wagner of
Valle Crucis, and Mrs. J. W. C.
Johnson.
Luncheon was served at the close
of the meeting in the Agricultural
building.
Charles A. Elmore and sister,
Miss Mary Elmore, of West's Mill,
spent Tuesday of last week in
Asheville,
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hurst, of
Ridgecre&t, spent Friday here. Mr.
Hurst was here on business, while
