Cabe land Mrs. Roy Cunningham entertained on Friday afternoon .at the home, of Mr,s. Cabe on' Riverview street with a kitchen shower, as a cour tesy to Miss Virginia Smith, recent bride-elect. The living room and dining room of the Cabe .home, which were thrown ensuite for , the occasion, were tastefully arranged with pas tel shades of sweet peas and baby's 'breath and rbther .summer flowers. More j than seventy-five friends called during the afternoon leav ing many useful and appropriate gifts for the honoree. The hostesses .served delicious punch and cake. GARDEN CLUB TO MEET AT ARROWOOD GLADE The: Franklin Garden club will meet on Monday afternoon, July 1, at 3 o'clock at Arrowood Glade for a picnic. The hostesses will be Mrs. Albert Ramsey and Mrs. A. L. McLean. All members are ask ed to meet at the Franklin Metho dist church at 2:30 o'clock, and those who have cars are asked to take the group to ArrowiOod. HOMECOMING CELEBRATED AT CLIFFSIDE LAKE More . than 30 relatives and friends gathered at Cliff side Lake on Thursday evening to celebrate the homecoming of Mr. arid Mrs. Harry M. Straine and two sons, larry, Jr., and Earl, who came in last week from Sacramento, Calif., for. a visit with relatives ' and friends in Macon county. This is Mr. Straine's first visit to Jiis native county . in 17 years. He is the, son of Monroe Straine, of Gneiss. He returned to his home Friday, going by Washington, D. C, and Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Straine, the former Miss Maude Higdon, daughter of W. L. Higdon, and two sons, will spend the summer with the former's sist er, Mrs. Albert L, Ramsey and other relatives in the county. LEGION AUXILIARY. HONORS GOLD STAR MOTHERS The American Legion Auxiliary of Macon Post 108, met in the Legion Hall on Monday' evening to honor the Gold Star mothers of the .World War. Those honored were Mrs. Ellen G. Crawford and Mrs. J. Henry Slagle, both of Cartoogechaye, who were present. They were presented with a beautiful corsage of sweet peas and baby's breath. In memory of the deceased Gold Star mothers, Mrs. A. W. Tilley and son, Jack, have teturned from . Spartanburg, S. C where they spent several days with their daughter and .sister, Mrs. Edward Baker and Mr. Baker. Mrs. Bakei- was the former Miss Virginia Tilley, of Franklin. Mrs. W. G. Wilkie ihias returned from Asheville, where she spent three weeks visiting her children. On' her return she was accompain ed by her daughter, Mrs. G. C. Ensley and Mr. Ensley, who spent the day here visiting. Mrs. C. T. Blaine and grandson, Cullen Bryant, Mrs. J. L. Barnand and Mrs,. A. B. Omohundro left Tuesday morning for Portland, Ore., for a visit with Mrs. Blaine's daughter, , Mrs. James L. Young and Mr. Young, and Mrs. Barn ard's . daughter, Mrs. Oscar W. Ashe and Mr. Ashe. Dr. Paul Jones, who spent a week in Franklin with his mother, Mrs. George A. Jones and broth ers, Gilmer A. Jones and R. S. Jones, returned to his home in Wakefield, R. I., Monday. -Mrs. George A. Jones spent Monday in Asheville with her son, Weimer Jones and Mrs. Jones. v Miss Kate Shope, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zeb V. Mrs. Bryson will be remembered as the former Miss Gertrude Shope, of Franklin. Mrs. Belle Downs of Texas is spending several days with Mrs. Lilly Younce, at her home on Burningtown. Harold Nelson, of Knoxviller Tenn., is visiting relatives and friends on Burningtown. Mrs. B. C. Naylor, of Asheville, Mis, Flora Wilkie, of Marshall and Miss Dorothy Naylor, of New York, spent Sunday with their mother and grandmother, Mrs. W.,G. Wil kie. Mr. and1 Mrs. W. C. Penn have returned to their home here from Troy, N. Y., where they went to attend the graduation exercises of their- son, James E. Penn, who .has been attending Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.
