Farm Meeting Scheduled August 20-21 Mountain farmers will hold their fourth annual Western North Car olina , Frmers' Crmventirtn at Ap plachian State teachers college, Boone, on August 20 and 21. About 500 are expected to attend, with the majority being oooperators in the TV A-Extension Demonstration Farm Program. However, all farm ers are invited. Fred S. Sloan of Franklin, West ern district' ' farm agent, is in charge of arrangements. . He an nounced that the convention will formally open at 1 ' o'clock Tues day afternoon, August 20, and will close with a morning session on Wednesday, -August 21. Several groups of farmers plan to arrive in Boone on Monday evening and spend Tuesday morning touring Watauga county farms. Arrangements have been made with the college for the delegates to receive four meals and one night's lodging for $1.75. For those who arrive Monday and spend two nights and eat six meals, the cost will be $2.50. The farmers must bring their own bed linen. For the most part the meting will consist of discussions, with the delegates being divided into subject matter groups according to their interests. Only four talks are scheduled for . the first day, and one for the final session Wednes day morning. Dr. B. B. 'Dougherty, president, will welcome the group to Appa lachian State College, and R. W. Shoffner, extension farm manage ment economist, will discuss the demonstration farm program which he directs. J. C. McAmis or W- M.' Landess of the agricultural rela tions division of the Tennessee Valley Authority, and Frank H. Jeter, argicultural editor of State college, will be the other speakers Tuesday. ' Dean I. O. Schaub of State col lege, director of the N. C. exten sion service, will sum up the meet ing before adjournment at noon on .Wedensday Harvey O. Cole, 64, Passes In Hendersonville Monday Funeral services for Harvey 0. Cole, 64, a former Macon county resident, who died in Henderson ville Sunday, were held on Mon day afternoon at 3 o'clock at An Mr. Cole', who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. J. Trantham, N on Sunday afternoon about 2 o'clock, had been in ill health for several weeks. He was formerly employed! with the Ritter Lumber company at Rainbow Springs. Surviving are several brothers and .sisters. Frank Raby Kills Large' Rttlesnake A large rattlesnake measuring 52 inches with nine rattles and a button on the end of its tail was kjrought into town Monday after noon, by Frank Raby of the Wa- Mr. Raby killed the .snake with a stick on a trail in the Kyle sec tion, about 15 miles from Frank Gneiss Miss Margaret Carter returned to her home in Anderson, S. G, Saturday, after spending several days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. G&rbitt here.
