S19 2tc S26 Cartoogechaye Gives Canned Tomatoes To Flood-Stricken Homes Fifteen dozen quarts of tomatoes and tomato juice have been canned bby the members of the Woman's Missionary Society of Mount Zion Methodist church on Cartooge chaye for distribution among the flood-stricken families in Jackson county. (Reports from the Jackson coun ty Red Cross this week state that 238 families have registered for aid). Five dozen quarts and five doz en half-gallon jars were furnished by the Red Cros,s through Harley Cabe, county chairman. The toma toes were donated by Carl Slagle. The society plans to can more next week, if the tomatoes are obtainable. Governor Hoey said he would issue a proclamation, as requested by President Roosevelt, concerning the registration and would make a formal statement requesting citi zens to cooperate with registrars and draft boards. C. division of came and inland fish eries, states Charles Melichar, for est ' supervisor of the Nanthala Forest at Franklin. This represents 50 per cent of the fee money col lected from each fisherman who enjoyed the good fishing on the coonerative wildlife maniacement areas on the Nantahala during the past trout season. Each year the amount collected at SI per dav per fisherman gets larger as more people learn of the good fishing to be had on these ureas. The $506 check means that 1012 sports men availed themselves of the streams stacked and Protected under the cooperative wildlife management agreement existing be tween the N. C. department of con servation and development and the United States forest service. There are five areas on the Nantahala national forest which are protected by the state game pro tectors: Fires CreeW area in ("lav county, Santeetlah area in Graham county, and Uiffside Lake, Wayah, and Standing Indian areas in Ma con county. . : Cliff side Lake had the longest average fish caught, averaging 9.9 inches.
