ed last Friday night with a mis
cellaneous shower honoring Mrs.
Colonel Howard, the former Miss
Agnes Ledford, at the home of the
bride's mother, Mrs. Bertha Led
ford. Around 60 relatives and friends
of the young couple called during
the 'evening. Music was '. furnished
by the Anderson brothers, and a
delicious refreshment course was
served to all the guests.

Boyd Collier, who prior to her mar
riage , was Miss Ida Scroggs, at
the home of her parents, Air. and
Mrs. Ed "Scroggs last Wednesday
night.

ing the evening to leave many
beautiful and useful presents for
the newly-wed pair.
SURPRISE PARTY FOR
MRS. JUD POTTS
Mrs. Ivy Lee .Potts gave her
husband's mother, Mrs. Jud Potts,
a surprise birthday party last Fri
day afternoon. ,
Mrs. Pearl Wright and Mrs.
Rimmer assisted by taking Mrs.
Potts over to spend the day with
her invalid friend, Jennie Woods.
As she opened the door on her
return, she was greeted by the
song, ''Happy Birthday to You,"
which was being sung by the room
full of her nearest neighbors. Mrs.
Potts was so completely surprised
that she had to be led to a chair
and her lap was filled with pres
ents. ,
After presents had been opened,
Ivy Lee invited the guests into the
diningroom where a large tier cake,
snow white with sixteen candles
graced the center of the long table,
which held tall vases of red roses
at .each end and a corsage for each
guest.
Mrs. Potts blew out the candles
and cut the cake serving her guests
while Ivy Lee served most tasty
fruit punch. The dining room, liv
ing room and porch were decorat
ed with brilliant autumn flowers.
Mrs. Potts remarked that she
had had a thousand birthdays,
"more or less" but this one was the
best ever I

Funeral Services Are
Held For Lula Scruggs
Funeral services for Lula
Scruggs, wife of Charley Scruggs,
local colored Baptist preacher, were
held last Saturday afternoon at
Sugarfork cemetery. The Rev. E.
S. Wiley officiated.
Mrs. Scruggs died at her home
in East Franklin early Friday
night, October 11, following a long
illness.
She is survived by her husband;
two children, Anna Mae Shepard
and Frank, Jr.; and by six step-
