Nantahala National Forest Did You Know That m There are three Forest Rangers located on the Nantahala National Forest. These Rangers are located as follows. John Wasilik, Jr., Way ah Ranger District, Franklin ; Win. M. Palmer, Tusquitee Ranger Dis trict, Murphy ; and Wm. L. Noth ' stein, Nantahala Ranger District, Andrews. Each of these Rangers has a portion of the Nantahala National Forest under his direct supervision. The area of National Forest land each Ranger administers varies from 90,000 acres on the Tusquitee District to 140,000 acres on the Wayah District. Locally, the Rang ers are probably best known, for their activity on Forest fires and on timber sales. However, they do a variety of other jobs from car rying on educational programs in conservation to surveying and building roads. Theirs is a never- ending variety of jobs, always in foresting. The U. S. Department of Agriculture Farm and Home Hour which comes on the radio every week day at 12:30 EST car ries a story of the United States Forest Ranger. This Ranger story "comes on' every Thursday and brings to life very vividly some of the many tasks the Ranger has to do. Many of the incidents en acted over the radio are identical to those which happen with the Forest ; Rangers on the Nantahala National Forest Appreciation Inasmuch as it is impossible for . me to do so personally, I want to take this means to tell the people of Macon County that I deeply appreciate the very splendid sup port given me in the recent political contest for the State Senate. I am profoundly grateful and hope it will be my privilege to give to the people of this district the type of representation in the coming term of the Legislature they so well deserve- EDWIN WHITAKER.
