GARDEN CLUB MEETS
WITH MRS. CHURCH
The Franklin Garden club held
its regular monthly meeting last
Monday afternoon at the home of
Mrs. H, E; Church, with Mrs.
Church and Mrs. J. A. Sutton act
ing as joint hostesses.
Mrs. Frank- Killian, president of
the Garden club, thanked the mem
bers of the club and the committee
for their cooperation in arranging
for the recent benefit jamboree to
raise funds for the . community
house. The jamboree was a' success
in every way, she said. Mrs. A. R.
Higdon, treasurer, reported that the
jamboree had netted $46.50.
Upon being moved and seconded,
a motion was passed inviting the
visitors present to become mem
bers of tire club. Mrs. Allan
Brooks, Mrs. Ben McGlamery, Mrs.
Kay Swanson, Mrs. Bill Bryson,
Mrs. T. D. B'ryson and Mrs. Merle
' Dryman were received into the
Club. . -

lina, spent the Thanksgiving holi

two children, of Charlotte, have
been visiting Mr. Davis' parents,

here and Mrs. Davis' parents, Mr.

home on Dillard, Ga., Route 1.
Miss Frances Morgan, of Char
lotte, daughter of the Rev. and
Mrs. A. Rufus Morgan, spent the
Thanksgiving holidays with her

lege, Clarkesville, Ga.; spent the
week-end with his uncle, Robert

Mrs. A. L. Leach, Mrs. Helen
Macon and son, Nat, returned to
Chapel Hill Sunday where Mr.s.
Macon is teaching in the Chapel
Hill high school.
Mr. and Mrs. K. F. Montague
spent the first of the week in
Raleigh visiting relatives and
friends.
Ann and Percy Wright, the chil
dren of Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
Wright have returned from Seneca,
S. C where they spent several
days visiting relatives and friends.
Mrs. Charles Reed, of ispnng-
field, Mass.. who has been visit
ing her brothers, T. B., Jeff, and
C. D. Enloe at their homes on
Cartoogechaye, left Friday for At
lanta for a visit to her sister, Miss
Lula M. Enloe before returning
to her home in Smithf ield.
Mrs. Sam L. Roeers left last
week for Atlanta, where she will
spend several weeks with her son,
Wiley Rogers and Mrs. Rogers.
Lyman Higdon, Jr., John Craw
ford, Jimmy Perry, and Harold
Sloan, Jr., have returned to the
University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill, after spending the
Thanksgiving holidays with their
parents.
Miss Helen Paton, art teacher
at Western Carolina Teachers' col
lege at Cullowhee, spent Sunday
with her father, Robert A. Patton.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy McCollum,
of Andrews, spent the week-end
with Mr, McCollumY parents, Mr.
and Mrs. E. B. McCollum.
Porter Carpenter, a former Ma
con county boy, who is now, sta
tioned in the U. S. Navy Training
Station at San Diego, Calif., spent
his leave with his family at Sedro
Woolley, Wash. He returned to
San Diego Nocember 23, sailing
from there to Honolulu where he
will - be stationed for the next 23
weeks.
Mrs. F. L. Siler returned last
Sunday night from a trip to At
lanta and Mobile. She is leaving
this week for New York City
where she will spend December
and January with her daughters
Dr. J. Lyle West, ' whose dental
offices were recently' destroyed in
the fire in the Bank of Franklin
building, has opened new offices in
the McCoy building.
John Crawford, son of Mr. and
Mrs. A. R. Higdon, and James
Perry, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E.
Perry, returned to Chapel Hill this
week-end to resume their studies
at the University of North Caro
lina, after spending .the Thanks
giving holidays here. .
Crude Meadows, who has bean
working at Fort Bragg, returned to
his home on Franklin Route 3
Tuesday. .
John C. Dalrymple of Franklin
Route 1, left last week for Ral
eigh where he will spend the winter
with his daughter, Mrs. Morris
Smith' and Mr. Smith. He will also.
visit his son, John Robert Dal
rymple and -Mr' Dalrymple in

Miss Fannie Mae Sherrill, who
is working in Andrews, spent the
week-end here with her mother,
Mrs. Jack Sherrill, Sr.

ery spent the week-end visiting
relatives and friends in Asheville.
Charlie Bryson, of the West's
Mill community, who underwent a
very serious operation at Ant-el
Clinic, is reported to be getting
along nicely. '

and daughter, Carolyn, of Char
lotte, spent Thanksgiving here -the
guests of the Rev. and Mrs. J. L.

Little Billy Waldroop, who re
turned to Angel hospital recently
for . treatment and observation, is
expected to return home shortly.
Tom McCollum, who underwent
an appendix operation at the
Angle Clinic on Thanksgiving Day,
returned to- his home on Thursday
