CONLEY, PHONE 104 BURRELL-CABE Miss Veo Burrell of Franklin Route 2 and Mr. Carey W. Cabe of Otto were married Sunday aft ernoon. December 8 at the Macon Circuit parsonage with the Rev. J. C. Swaiin, pastor, officiating. The bride was attired in a brown wcol suit with matching brown accessories. '.'.:'. Mrs. Cabe is the daughter of Mr. Lee Burrell of Franklin, Route 2 and the late Mrs. Burrell, and for several years has made her home with the Rev. and Mrs. L. Teague on Route 2. Mr. Cabe is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cabe of Otto and for the last three years has been living in West Virginia where he was employed by the Ritter Lumber company. The couple intend to make their home in Macon county. HOWARD BRADLEY GIVEN SURPRISE BIRTHDAY DINNER BY FRIENDS Howard Bradley of Otto was taken by surprise when a number of his friends and relatives came to his home November 28 and pre pared a Thanksgiving and birthday dinner. There was a bounteous supply of food which had been well prepar ed. Those present were: Mrs. VVm. Howard, Misses Elizabeth and Vir ginia Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Andy L. Howard and daughter, Annie Will, Mrs. Van Bell and daughter, Lena, Jack Shope, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Howard.' rather than baskets of fruit, as has been the custom. Mrs. T. J. Johns ton was appointed to do this; also Mrs. Johnston was appointed regis trar. The president, Mrs. H. E. Church, announced plans . for the program and list of hostesses for the 1941 year book. It was decided to cele brate the birthdays of General Robert E. Lee and General "Stone wall" Jackscn on Tuesday, Janu ary 21, with a Confederate tea, to which all friends would be invited. The lea will bt given at the. home of the president, Mrs. Church, in the Orlando apartments. The hostess, assisted by her daughter, Miss Audrey Conley, served delicious refreshments and a pleasant social hour was enjoyed. . Others attending the meeting were Mrs. T. J. Johnston, Mrs. George Slagle, Mrs. Lon Campbell, Mrs. Zeb Conley, Miss Lily Kan kin and Mrs. Cantey-Johnson. . The chapter, will meet with Mrs. George Slagle in January. LOCAL EASTERN STARS VISIT BRYSON CITY Miss Elizabeth Slagle, district deputy i grand matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, made her of ficial visit to Tuckaseegee Chapter No. 16, at Bryson City on Monday evening. Miss Slagle was accompanied by Mrs. Herbert E. Church, Mrs. T. T. Love, Mrs. Pearl Wright Mrs. A. R. Higdon, Mrs. Ray R. Swan- son, Mrs. I. T. Peek, Mrs. Frank J. Murray, Mrs. C. T. Bryson, Mrs. Lee Guffey, Mrs. Carl P. Cabe, and James Hauser of the Nequassa Chapter No. 43. At the conclusion of the busi ness meeting the guests and mem bers were invited into the dining room where they found a beauti fully decorated lighted Christmas tree laden with appropriate gifts for everyone present. ' The hostesses served a sweet course carrying out the Yuletide motif, following the distribution of the gifts. METHODIST BIBLE CLASS TO MEET NEXT THURSDAY The F. S. Johnston Bible Class of the Franklin Methodist church will meet on Thursday afternoon. December 19, at 3 o'clock at the home of Mrs. W. A. Rogers for its business and social meeting. A Christmas program and tree will be held and each member attending is asked to bring a package. Mrs. Rogers' will be assisted in entertaining by Mrs. - Zeb W. Conley. All members are urged to be present. U. D. C. CHAPTER MEETS WITH MRS. CONLEY The United Daughters of the Confederacy met on Monday aft ernoon with Mrs. Lester Conley. It was decided to send a Christ mas message with a gift of money to the two remaining survivors of the Confederacy in Macon county, MISSIONARY SOCIETIES TO MEET NEXT WEEK The Woman's Missionary Socie ties of the Franklin Baptist church will meet on Thursday afternoon, December 19, at 3 o'clock for their regular: monthly business and so cial meetings. Circle No. 1 will meet at the home of Mrs. A. R. Higdon, on the Georgia road ; Circle No. , 2 with Mrs. C. D. Baird on Bonny Crest, and Mrs. C. F. Rogers at the Baptist pastiorium on White Oak street. ' ' All members are urged to attend. On her way to New York last week, Mrs. F. L. Siler stopped for a few days' visit with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Siler at Sylva. While there, she was invited by both the Dillsboro and Sylva chap ter of the United Daughters of the Confedracy to give anaccount of the general convention in Mont gomery, which she attended. She was also asked to meet with, the Dillsboro chapter in Webster in November, to give a review of her book on Indian lore. Mrs. J. C. Barrington and Mrs. T. C. Justus spent last week-end in Atlanta. Their sister, Mrs. L. P. Compton, who has been quite ill in Georgia Baptist hospital, re turned with them for a visit here Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cabe and son, Larry, Mrs. Curtis Pearson, Mrs. David Sutton and Mrs. Char lie Bradley spent Tuesday in Asheville. -LeRoy Morrison, of Winston- Salem spent the first of the week visiting his sister,; Mrs. Furman Guy and Mr. Guy at Etna, and bird hunting. , Mrs. Martha McCloud of High lands, who has been a patient in Angel hospital, is convalescing at the home of her daughter,' Mrs. W. W. McConnell. Mrs. W. . M. Smart spent the week-end in Asheville with her husband.' Mr. Smart is working on a state highway construction in Chapel Hill. v Ben W. Woodruff spent the week-end in Atlanta visiting his uncle, F. L. Woodruff, who is ill in a hospital there. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Swanson made a pleasure trip to Knoxville and Norris dam Sunday. Mi$ Sarah Conley has return ed from Atlanta, where she spent several days the guest of Captain and Mrs. R. I. McCormack. She also visited Miss Kathryn Ellard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pope Ellard1" in Cornelia, Ga., while away. Bobby Tysinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tysinger, Jr., who had his tonsils removed at Angel hos pital Friday, is getting along nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Keece have moved to Canton, where Mr. Reece is connected with the Dixie Store. Mr. Reece has for several months been manager of the Dixie Store in Franklin. Mrs. T. S. Munday has returned to Manchester. Ga., where she is spending the Winter with her moth er, after spending the week-end here. Mrs. C. D. Baird, Jr., and Mrs. Amos Harris spent Friday in Asheville. Mrs. ' H. O. Cozad returned Sat urday from Elberton, Ga., where she spent a week with her daugh ter, Mrs! John O. Wall and Air. Wall. On her return she was ac companied by Mr, and Mrs. Wall who spent the week-end here re turning to their home .Sunday aft ernoon. Wilburn CofTTey, son of Mr. and Mrs, Zeb W. Conley, who is at tending Louisburg College at Louis burg, is a member of the college Glee dub. The club will broadcast from WPTF radio station in Ral eigh on Sunday, December 15. They recently sang at the North Caro lina conference at Wilmington. Mrs. E. R. Kinnebrew, who has been ill for several months at the home of her sister, Mrs. Lee Craw ford, has recuperated sufficiently to be moved to Batontori, Ga.. where she will spend tht winter with her daughter, Mrs. Jim Cook and Mr. Cook. Mrs. Sam Gibson, of Iotla, sup erintendent of the ' Woman's Mis sionary Union of the Bryson City division, spent a part of the past two weeks in Cherokee county west of Murphy working in the missionary unions. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Rowland, Mrs. Dwight Rowland and Mrs. Mae Rowland, all of the Iotla community, will leave Saturday for Macon, Ga., and Live Oak, Fla., where they will spend the Christ Celebrates 95th Birthday v; , i i MRS. AMANDA GUY GIBSON Who celebrated her 95th birthday at the 'home., of her son, Ben Gibson, at Gneiss last Thursday, friends. Frank Holbrooks, of Candler is spending this week at West's Mill bird hunting and visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. Ltlia Gibson, of Wavnes- ville, spent the first of the week visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Dryman at .their. home near Cozad mill Edwin G. Young has returned to his home on Franklin Route 2, from Randolph Fjeld, Texas, where he was stationed in the Flying Cadet detachment fyr several months. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Young. Dr. Furman Corbin and family have moved from the DeHart house to their new. five-room house just completed on White Oak street. Caroline, Emory and Margaret Crawford, children of Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer Crawford, have been quite ill for the past week with influenza. Mrs. W. A. Rousseau and daugh ter, Dianne, who have been spend ing several weeks visiting Mrs. Rousseau's mother, Mrs. Lee Craw ford, left Thursday for Washing ton. D. C, to join Mr. Rousseau. Miss Evelyn Moss spent the week-end visiting her cousin, Miss Virginia Zachary. Miss Byrda Nell Southards, spent the Thanksgiving holidays in At lanta, the guest of Miss Kate Ashe. On her return she was accom pained by Miss Dprothy Ashe, who is spending several days with her sister, Mrs. Carl Higdon. Mr. and' Mrs. Dan R. Reynolds were recently visiting friends in Bryson City. John Cory, who is working with the Nantahala Power and Light company here, spent the week-end with his parents in Robbinsville. John Davenport, of Boston Mass., is spending a few days here on business and visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Page on Rogers Hill. Dover R. Fouts, of Burnsville, spent the week-end with his fath er, Dr. J. H. Fouts and Mrs. Fouts on Iotla street.
