Ward, of Alabama, were quietly married in Clayton, Ga., on Sunday, December 8. Judge K C. Ramey, officiated in the pres ence of a few close friends. Mrs. Ward is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Cheslem, of Belglade. Mr. Ward who came from Ala bama to the Nantahala hydro electric development is operating machinery on the project. Mr. and- Mr,. Ward are staying at Dixie Hall. Tallent, arrived from California just before his father's death last Monday. Dar rell entered the U. S. Navy last April, and was on the U. S. S. Allen about to .sail for Hawaii when summoned to . his father's bedside. Ben McGollum has returned from Cornelia, Ga,, where he was called on account of the serious illness of his sister, Mrs. Pink Brown. Judge and Mrs. Clem Sutton, of Washington, Ga., 5pent the week end with Mrs. Sutton's mother, Mrs. S. H. Lyle, Sr., and brother, S. H. Lyle and Mrs. Lyle at their home on Harrison avenue. Mr- and Mrs. Graham Grindstaff of West Asheville and Mrs. Rose Hill, of Canton, were visiting friends here Tuesday. Miss Helen Patton, teacher of Art in Western Carolina Teachers' college, at Cullowbee, is spending the holidays here with her father, Robert A. Patton, at nis home on Harrison avenue. Robert L. Thomas have returned from New York and other points of interest where they spent several weeks with relatives and friends. Mrs. W. B. McGuire was called to tort Myers, Fla., to be witn her niece, Miss Adelaide Hamilton, who is reported to be quite ill. Mrs. Martha McCloud, who has been quite ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. W. McDonnell on lotla street, is reported to be getting along very nicely. Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Fonts spent Sunday in Glenville with Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Watson. v Mrs. Joseph C.
