CONVENTION WILL MEET AT MT. HOPE The Macon county Baptist Sun day School convention will meet at the Mt. Hope Baptist church on Sunday afternoon, January '20, it has been announced by Paul Swafford, president. The meeting which, is scheduled to begin at 2:15 o'clock will open with a congregational song, follow ed by the report, front the visit ing Sunday schools. Miss Gladys Pannell, of Franklin, will, give a talk on the "Importance of Study Courses in Sunday School. The ' principal address will be made by the Rev. Robert W. Wil liams, iastor of the Oak Grove Baptist church. All churches are urged to send, a . large delegation. The public is invited to attend. ' ' HOLBROOK-BURRELL Mr. and Mrs. James R. Holbrook, of West's Mill, have announced the marriage of their daughter, Orpha, to Hugh Burrell, of Frank lin Route 3. ')!' The wedding ceremony was sol emnized in Clayton, , Ga.. Judge R. C. Kamey officiated. Mrs. Burrell is a graduate of the Waynesville -high school . and of Marshall School of Beauty Cul ture in Winston-Salem. Mr. Burrell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Church in the Orlando apartments. The public is invited to attend. MR. AND MRS. FRANK HILL'S NEICE HONORED IN TEXAS Miss Marguerite Hill, of Doug las,: Ariz., niece of . Mr. and Mrs. , Frank Hill of Horse Cove, and granddaughter of the late Grundy Hill, was a "Sun Princess" at the recent Sun Carnival at El : Paso, Texas. Her home town sent her as their most beautiful girl to repre sent them at one of the outstand ing events of the southwest. AVERELLS RETURN FROM EXTENDED TOUR Mr. and Mrs. James Averell have returned home after an ex tended trip across the continent. Their car was left in Washington, D. C, where Mr. Averell attended the American Society of Foresters convention, and they continued the trip by rail to California via Chi cago and Santa Fe to Riverside, Calif., spending the Christmas hol idays with Mrs. Averell's mother, Mrs. Louise Patten, and later with Mr. Averell's; parents and other relatives, in Berkeley. Beshears. Mrs. T. V. Ramsey, who has been spending several weeks' in Asheville with her daughter, Mrs. Wade H. Moody, and Mr. Moody, spent the week-end with her son, Charles O. Ramsey and Mrs. Ram sey at their home on Iotla street. Claude Roper, who has bron chial pneumonia at his home near Iotla bridge is reported to be some what improved. J. S. Gray, of Franklin Route 2, has accepted a position in Macon, Ga. ' Mrs. Gilmer A. Jones who has been confined to her room with influenza, is reported much im proved. Miss Lassie Kelly, who has been ill for the past week with influ enza, is reported to be improved. T. C. Justus, who has been here from Washington, D. Thousands of North Carolina fanners, like the two pictured beside the truck, have been supplied aerial photo graphs of their farms, similar to the one shown here. The Agricultural Adjustment Administration has made aerial phwtos of about 40,397 of the 48,740 square mile,S of agricultural hind in North Carolina. Aerial photography in connection with the AAA farm program was started in the State in 1936 and in 1940 performance in the program was checked through aerial photos in 86' counties. As a part of their edu cational work, county farm agents of the State College : Extension Service show farmers how to use the aerial photographs o check their compliance with the program. ' J. T. News was received by friends in Franklin last wek that Mrs. John Awtrey is a patient in the Mar ietta hospital in Marietta, Ga., for treatment. However, her condition is reported as much improved and she will .soon return to her home at Acworth, Ga. Both Judge and Mrs. Awtrey have many friends in Franklin who will be. glad to hear from them again.' Mr. and Mrs. Henry D. HOSPITAL NEWS , Louise Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moore of West's Mill, who underwent an appendix operation at -Angel hospital Satur day, is reported to be doing well. . Clark Sheffield, young son of Mr. and - Mrs. Grover Sheffield, of West's Mill underwent an op eration at Angel hospital Wednes day morning. His condition was re ported by hospital attendants as being satisfactory. Mrs. Fred Hannah, of the Car- toogechaye community, who is a patient in Angel hospital, was re ported to be doing well this week. Doris and Lyle Jones, of Sylva, who were in an automobile acci dent on the Co'wee mountain Sun day, a-e patients in Angel hospi tal. They are suffering with frac tured and dislocated shoulders. Their conditions are reported to be satisfactory. An auto depreciates two cents in value for every mile it is driven, according to statistics.
