AND MRS. DUPREE Rev. and Mrs. R. b! DuPree were' honored with a surprise linen shower Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. P. P. Thompson, The shower was given in connec tion with the regular meeting of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church. The large number of friends who'. called, and the wide variety of gifts evidenced the esteem in which the Dul'rees are held in this community. Hostesses for the occasion were Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Frank H. Potts, Mrs. Wilton H. Cobb and Mrs. Louis A. Edwards. Delicious refreshments' were served. Mr. and Mns. DuPree will leave shortly for their new home in Coveville, Va., where Mr. DuPree will have charge of three churches in that . district. HIGHLANDERS ATTEND METHODIST MEETING Mrs. Lyman Picklesimer, Rev. and Mrs. J. S. Higgins and Miss Susan Rice attended the spiritual mobilization meeting in Asheville Tuesday staying over for the mass meeting at the City ayditoriu'm Tuesday evening. At the evening meeting Dr. John R, Mott, of New Yprk City, internationally known Y. M. C. A. worker, and one of the most outstanding missionaries in Methodist circles, was principal speaker. " ' The meeting in Asheville was one of three Spiritual Mobiliza tion meetings held in the state this week by the Methodist church. and Mrs. Brown were particularly interested in viewing the damage along this route caused by the floods of last August. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gaither of Cornelia, Ga., formerly of Birming' ham Ala,., spent the past week-end here with Mrs. Gaither's aunt, Dr. Jessie Z. Morcland. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Ormand and family, who occupied the du Big non cottage on Mirror Lake this winter, moved Monday into the W. S. Davis cottage on West Main street. General and Mrs. C. A. Summer- all of Charleston, S. C, were week end guests, at Hotel Edwards. Gen- eral Summerall is president of the Citadel Military college. D. W. Wiley has returned to Fort Bragg after a ten days ill ness of influenza at his hom here. BUFFET SUPPER AT HOTEL EDWARDS One of the most delightful events of the past week was the supper party given by Mr. and Mrs. Louis A Edwards on Friday eve ning at Hotel Edwards, when bar becued pig with all the trimmings was served to 28 of their friends in the younger married set. Quantities of jonquils, hyacinths and primroses were used to deco rate the dining room and lobby of the hotel. Supper was served buffet style from an appropriately decorated long, dining table, and the couples drew for supper . partners. An at tractive arrangement of fruit form ed the center-piece at each of the ' small tables. The evening was spent in play ing games, and Miss Elizabeth Whiteside, who assisted in enter taining, called the numbers for bingo. Among the many other games played was that of Quaker Meeting, in which the guests gave their parts in pan tomime. Twenty eight lovely 1 prizes were given , to winners in the various games. CLASS ENTERTAINED The Presbyterian Sunday school entertained Friday afternoon in the Sunday school rooms of the church honoring the new boys' class, which has as its teacher Louis A. Edwards. The boys in this class range in age from 10 to 15 years. The Misses June Thompson, Jes sie and Nancy Potts were the so cial committee. Morris Calloway and Buddy Thompson t bowling1 alley tickets given as prizes in the scrambled name contest. In the spelling bee five contestants tied for high score, and Buddy Thompson drew the prize. M6-tc M27 MISS GILDER EXHIBITS UNUSUAL BLOOMS The Camellia-Japonica blooming in the window of the Cash Gro cery store is attracting wide atten tion, especially, among flower lov ers. Miss Sara Gilder who has 'a way with flowers" has nursed the plant through zero weather and it is now rewarding her with a number of exquisite pink blossoms. The plant was given to Miss Gilder "by Mr. Harvey Trice of Thomasville, Ga!, and when a member of the firm saw it last summer, he remarked that "it is doing better than any plant we have sold in Thomasville." " MRS. COBB ENTERTAINS CARD CLUB , Mrs. Wilton H. Cobb was hos tess to the Wednesday card club at a 2 o'clock bridge-luncheon last week. The table centerpiece . was decorative fruit flanked by four lemon candles. LOYALTY CAMPAIGN AT BAPTIST CHURCH Preparatory work is being done by the Highlands Baptist church for a Loyalty Campaign which be gins April 1. Mrs. J. G. Benfield has just completed an interesting cloth chart measuring 12 feet long by 4 four feet wide, Following the Footprints of Jesus", which sets forth th life of Christ from birth to His ascension. This chart has been placed' on the wall of the main auditorium, and will be the central theme for study during Miss Frances Wiley has com pleted the four years nurses' train ing course at Franklin Square hos pital in - Baltimore, and has ac cepted a position on the nursing staff of the hospital. Miss Wiley is the daughter of Mr, and Mrs. D. W. Wiley of Highlands, and is a graduate of Highlands high school. ' i - Miss Mozelle Bryson, a student at Brevard college, spent the week end at her home 'here and visited her mother, Mrs. W. A. Bryson, at the Angel hospital in Frank lin where she was a patient for several days. Miss Mildred Swain and Jerry Cornelius of Atlanta were week end guests of Miss Swain's sister, Mrs. Louis Edwards, and Mr. Ed wards at the hotel. Mrs. Margaret Rankin and her daughter of Atlanta, are enjoying a pleasant visit in Los Angeles, Calif., with Mrs. Rankin s son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Shorter Rankin. Miss Albertina Staub returned Tuesday from the Angel hospital where she was a patient for four days. Miss Staub's condition is much improved but her physician has ordered a further rest in bed for a few days. Miss Catherine George of Miami, Fla, is expected this week for a Jr. Miss George is en route to visit with Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Burt, Dallas, Texas for a visit with her father. Fred Greenway and his brother, Quinten Greenway, from the Potts House, spent the past week-end with their parents at Elberton, Go. Miss. Virginia Mae Edwards, who had to give np her student work at Brevard college because of ill ness, is slowly convalescing at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Edwards.
