BLAINE WEDS MISS BRIGGS A ' wedding of interest to many . friends here is that of William J. Blaine, son .of Mr. and Mrs. C T. Blaine, who was married "to Miss Jessie Sue Briggs, daughter of. Mr. and Mrs.: S. W. Briggs, of Swan nanoa, on Easter Sunday.' The beautiful wedding service waiS solemnized in the Swannanoa Bap tist church last Sunday afternoon at four o'clock, with Dr. Hoy t Black burn, president of Mars Hill col lege performing the ceremony. The vows were spoken in front of a bower of greenery with tall baskets of Easter lilies on either side. White tapers added to the decorations. " . The bride was lovely in a be coming gown of pale blue silk with hat to match, and a bride's bouquet of pink rosebuds and blue delphin ium. Her sister, Miss Nell Briggs, was her maid-of-homor. John Cunningham of Franklin, acted as the groom's best man. The wedding was attended by a number of friends and relatives of the young people. Mrs. J. H. Young, sister of the groom, Oisoar Bryant ' and Cell Bryant, brother-im-law and nephew, of Franklin, attended. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine were prevented from being present on account of illness. The bride is a graduate of St. Genevreve-of-the-Pines, Asheville, and the groom is a graduate of Mars Hill college. Mr. Blaine is employed with the Smoky Moun tain Stages. The couple will make their home in Asheville. CHILDERS-COOPER Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Cooper an nounce the marriage of their daughter, Clare Sue, to Elmer B. Childers, of Franklin. The wedding was solemnized on Sunday, April 13, in Clayton, Ga. The bride wore a dubonnet gown of chiffon with white accessories. Mnsv Childers is the only daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Cooper and a granddaughter of the late George Stiles of Franklin. She was for merly from Tennessee. She attend ed Etowah high school and Ten nessee Wesleyan College in Athens, fTenn. . Mr. Childers, is the youngest .son ef Mrs. Alice Childers and the late Humphrey Childers. He holds' a position as operator for the Namtahala Power and. Light com pany at Glenville. Mr. and Mrs. Childers will re-, side in Franklin at present. GEORGE M. SLAGLE JR. Mr, Slagle is a member of the personnel of the Blue Ridge Park way and is located at Galax, Va. Cunningham & Company "The Shop of Quality" JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET GREATLY ENJOYED The Junior-Senior banquet of the Franklin high school held at Panorama Courts last Friday eve ning was a delightful affair. The red, white and blue motive carried out in the decorations gave a festive air to the occasion. Clever place cards bore the Sta tue of - Liberty, and favors were miniature soldiers. Helen Edwards, president : of the rising senior class, niade the ad dress of welcome and Lewis Pat ton gave the response for the grad uating class. The program included musical selections and speeches by Superintendent Guy Houk and Dr. W. E. Furr. Miss Nora Moody, retiring president of the county unit of N. C. E. "A., the school board and district committee were special guests. After the banquet, some enjoyed dancing at Panorama Courts and others went to the Macon Theatre. MRS. CASE'S RECITAL AT MACON THEATRE Mrs. Henry W. Cabe announces that her music pupils, will give their Spring recital at the Macom Theatre Sunday evening, April 20, at 8 p. m. The public is cordially invited to attend. U. D. C. MEET WITH MRS. CHURCH Mrs. Herbert E. Church was hostess to the Macon County Chapter of the United Daughters of Confederacy on Monday after noon. Mrs. Church, president, presided and Mrs. Lon Campbell read the ritual. The names of Mrs. Hazel Frye Sandlin, Mrs. Katherinef Frye of Bryson City were introduced for membership to the . Macon County Chapter. They were umanimously accepted. Plans were made for a large delegation of members to attend the district -meeting of the United Daughters of Confederacy that will be held in Sylva onTuesday, April 29. ..'.',, Miss Lilly Rankin, who recently returned from Sarasota, Fla., gave a talk on the interesting places she visited while spending the winter in Florida. The May meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Frank Moody with Mrs. Lyman Higdcun as as sociate hostess. The living room of the Church home was decorated with bowls 6f jonquiLs forsythia, roses and stock. The lace-covered dining room table had as a center piece a bowl of jonquils, surrounded with candy -Easter favors. Mrs. Church served a refreshing iced drink with wafers. Sam Gibson, Sr., has returned to his home on Iotla from Oteen hospital where he took treatment for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Allman left last week for Michigan where they have employment. . Roger. Nix, who has been assis tant manager of the A. & P. store left Sunday for Sylva to work in the- store there. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Whitaker spent Sunday in Andrews with rel atives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. George B. Patten returned to their home in Raleigh Monday, after spending the week end here with Mrs. Pattern's moth er, Mrs. S. E. Penland. Mr. and" Mrs. Troy Bradley and son, Jimmy, Mr. and Mrs. Con nette Johnson and Verlin Bradley, of Winston-Salem, spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Bradley at Etna. M rs.' Derald Ashe spent the week-end. in Hazelwood with her sister, Mrs. Roy oRbinson. Mr. and Mrs. Ray R. Swanson plan to move into their new house on the old Georgia-road this week. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mielke and son, Charlev of Newberry, S. C spent the week-end with Mrs. Mielke's mother, Mrs. M. F. Jones at her home on Bonny , Crest. Mrs. James Young, O. C Bryant and son, ClelL attended the wed ding of Mrs. Young's brother, Wil liam Blaine in Swannanoa Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Dowdle spent Sunday in Greenville, S. C, Sun day with their daughter, Mrs. Wil liam E. Willis and Mr. Willis. Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Swafford, Mr. and Mrs.. Paul Swfford and two children, spent the week-end in Charlotte with their brothers, Carl, Harvey and Clifton Swafford. Mr. and Mrs. Graham Grind staff of Asheville, spent Tuesday here with relatives and friends. Charlie Grindsraff returned to Franklin Tuesday from Spruce Pine where he had spent two weeks on business. Bo Henry, who has been work ing in Seattle, Wash., for some time is here for a visit with his grandfather, R. F. Henry on Franklin Route 4. - Lawrence Ramsey, who is a pa tient in Angel hospital, .was re ported to be getting along nicely Wednesday. Ernest Rankin and sister, Miss Lilly Rankin have returned from Sarasota, Fla.j where they spent the winter months. Clarence Curtis, of Aberdeen, Wash., came in Monday for1 a visit with his brother, W. Fv Curtis and Mrs. Curtis. He will also visit rekitives in Bryson City and Sylva while here. - Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Kesler and son, Billy, returned to their home in Salisbury Monday, after spend ing the week-end with Mrs. Kes ler's mother Mrs. T. W. Angel, Sr. - Doyle DcHart and Ray Bejinett, who are in the navy 'stationed at Norfolk, Va., Came in Saturday to spend a week with their parents, Mrs. E. B. DeHart on White Oak street, and Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Bennett on Franklin Route 3. Mrs. B. F. Richardson, who has been spending several months with her daughter, Mrs. Henry W. Ca.be, is visiting Mrs. A. R. McDonald in Gastonia. :'' A motoring party from Ashe ville came to Franklin on a sight seeing trip on Tuesday, making the return trip by Highlands.-They were Mrs. H. D. Creighton and Mrs. T. J. Wooldridge, Asheville; Misses Margaret and Martha Som ervillc of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Harry Teel, of Newton, N. J. While ' here they were the guests of Mr,S. J. W. C. Johnson. Miss Gladys Sellers, who has been spending two months at Day tona Beach, Fla., is-expected home Saturday. The Rev. Hubert Wardlaw of Columbia Seminary, Atlanta, and his fiancee, Miss Annie Lee Jack son of Clinton, S. C., were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Crawford on White Oak .street Mr. Wardlaw preached at . the Franklin Presbyterian church. He will assume his duties as pastor June 1. Johnny Young, who is working in Athens, Ga., spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Young on Franklin Route 2, Misses Trixie ffee Rpland and Dorothy Fouts, who are attend ing Western Carolina Teachers' college, spent the week-end with their parents on Iotla. Watkins, who recent ly underwent an operation in Angel hospital, has returned to her home much improved. Staff Sergeant James Ammons, who lias been stationed with the radio department of the' Marine Corps in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, is --spending "'several weeks with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mr,s. W. G. Crawford. Mr. Ammons will leave May 1 for Philadelphia where he will be lo cated in the radio department of the Marine Supply Depot.
