MISS FRANCES MORGAN'S
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
The engagement of Miss Frances
Kathryn Morgan, daughter of the
Kev. and Mrs. A. Kufus Morgan,
to Donald McLean, of Asheville
and Charlotte, is announced by
Jver parents. The wedding will take
place on Saturday,, May 10, at
Kanuga Luke, near Hendersonville,
-in the Woodland chapel.
Miss Morgan has many friends
in Franklin, having lived here for
several months when a social
worker of the Asheville district
of VVPA. From this ' position she
was promoted to supervisor with
residence in Charlotte.

The T. E. L. Sunday School
class of the Franklin Baptist church
will meet on Tuesday afternoon,
April 19, at 3 o'clock at the home
of - Mrs. Truman Moody for its
regular monthly meeting. All mem
bers are urged to attend.

Dover Fouts, of Burnsville, spent
the week-end with his fattier, Dr.

Anna Jeanne Penland, daughter
of H. K. Penland, who has been
seriously ill for "several days, was
reported to be improving this week.
T. B. Higdon of Atlanta visited
the Franklin Press Monday morn
ing. He spent the week-end with
his mother Mrs. J. H. Higdon of
Higdonville.
Hugh Johnston of . Atlanta' spent
the week-end with his mother, Mrs.
T. J. Johnston.
G. A. Jones, Jr., who enlisted in
Naval Aviation last month, going
to the-Miami base for hi$ prelimi
nary training, has completed his
30 days test period including ,solo
flights and has been . transferred
to the, new aviation base at Jack
sonville, Fla., for the rest of his
year's training.
D. J. Moses passed through
Franklin Monday to spend the
summer at his home at Ellijay..

Gilmer Crawford took his daugh-

Dr. H. T. . Horsley, a patient in
Angel hospital suffering from sci
atic rheumatism, was reported
Tuesday to be improving.
The Kev. C. F. Rogers is spend
ing this week in Bryson City
teaching a special Bible, course-at
the First Baptist church there.
He was accompanied by Mrs.

Charles Palmer, who has been
here on a two weeks' visit with
his iiarents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Palmer, returned to San Diego.
Calif., Friday, where he is sta
tioned in the United State, Navy.

spent the week-end with his moth
er, Mrs. T. J. Johnston.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderson left
the first of the week for Atlanta
where Mr. Anderson will take an
electric welding course during the
next two months.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cardon and
son, Floyd, Jr., attended the fu
neral of Mrs. Cardon's brother,
James Elmore, at the Liberty
Baptist church Tuesday.
Frank Guest, of Detroit, Mich.,
came in last week for a visit to
his parents, Mr. and Mrs, George
Guest on Franklin Route 4, and
with his wife who has been here
several weeks visiting.
Miss Louise Blaine has returned
from Athens, Ga., where she re
cently completed a commercial
course at Athens Business college.
Ray Bennett and Doyle DeHart
returned Sunday to Norfolk, Va.,
where they are stationed in" the
United States Navy, after spend
ing last week here with relatives
and friends.

Mrs. William J. Blaine, the former Miss Jessie Sue Briggs. of Swan
nanoa. Mr. and Mr.s. Blaine were married on Easter Sunday. After
a wedding trip to Washington, D. C, they are at home in Asheville.
Mr. Blaine is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Blaine of Franklin.

Discusses Recreation
The last meeting of the year of
the P. T. A, of the Otto school
met last Thursday afternoon. The
theme of the program was "Recre
ation." Mrs. Jim Gray, president', pre
sided and led the devotions. Mrs.
Edd Heason read, art article on
general recreation and Mrs. Joyce
J. Cagle talked an "Recreation for
Primary Children at Home and-at
School. Mrs. Georgia B. Horsley
discussed "Recreation for Grammar
Grade Children," stressing the ad
visability of hobbies for children
of that age.
J. J. Mann, principal, led a dis
cussion, of our objectives for next
year, as follows:
1. Learning to live together "'help
fully. 'and enjoyably.
2. Public school music in our
school.
3. Lunch room an attractive and
healthful . lunch for each child,
4. Art adequate library for bur
school.

Holland Infant
Dies Of Pneumonia
David Keith Holland, the month
old son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Holland, died at the Angel hospital
on Friday morning, after an illness
of three days. 'Death was: caused
from 'pneumonia following measles.
Funeral services were held at
Sugar Fork Baptist . church on
Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
The Rev. V. C Ramey was in
charge of the services. Burial was
in the church cemetery. ' Surviving
besides the parents are two sisters
and ine brother of Hiawas.see. Ga.
