Ga., . formerly of Anderson, S. C.
He is the grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Harrison Hill of High
lands. He is a member of the firm
of Norris Inc., dealers of Antiques
and Objects of Art. He received
his education at Vass University
school and Georgia Tech.

PASSES IN MIAMI
" Word was received here Satur
day of the death of E. F. Raynoc
in a Miami, Fla., hospital that
morning. Mr. Raynor had been a
summer resident of Highlands for
a number of years prior to build
ing a summer home at the Country
Club in 1937.

Harold Rogers .'won the,

dollar sixth grade prize offered by
Miss Ethel Calloway, teacher, to
the student showing the greatest
improvement in reliability, judg
ment1, self-control and obedience
during the school year. Running
Harold a close second was Lena
Crane in a vote of 13 to 10. Others
coming in for honorable mention
were Frances Miller and Jesse
Vinson. : '
Harold served as class president
for the last two months of school,
with Doris Hedden vice-president;
Iris Ormoiul, secretary, and Mae
Miller, treasurer.

Tricemont Terrace was jhe scene
of a lovely wedding on Thursday,
Alay 1.5, at 5 o clock in the after'
noon when H. D. Smith and Miss
June Wise of Greenville, ;S. C,
were United in marriage. The Rev.
W. ,McLeod Krampton, Jr., pastor
of the Third "Presbyterian church
in Greenville heard the vows. The
couple left immediately for a wed
ding trip to New York City.

Announcement 'has been made
of the marriage of Mrs. ' Dayis
Wagener Dietrich Chambers, of
Chicago, III,, to Mr. William Way,
Jr., of Nashville, Tenn., on Mon
day, May 19, at high noon in the
Presbyterian church in Walhalla,
S. C. The bride's daughter, Miss
Jan Chambers, was maid of honor
and Admirial C. N. McCully of
Highlands, acted as best man.
Mr. Way is executive assistant
to the president of the Nashville,
Chattanooga & St. Louis railroad,
and after a short wedding trip the
couple will foe at home in Nash

founded by Mr. Way's great
grandfather, Wagner, and because
of sentiment the couple chose this

VICTOR SMITH WINS
IN ESSAY CONTEST
Victor Smith, high school senior,
won first prize in the boys' essay
contest at Highlands school on the
subject "Democracy vs. Isms", and
Naincy Potts, first year high school,
won iirst prize in the girls' essay
contest, "Isms and Democracy."
These two prize winning essays
are carried in the current issue of
the school paper, The Mountain
Trail, and we are quoting the last
paragraph of Victor's essay :. "De
mocracy must stand together all
united against the common enemy
Ism" and must all work for one
outcome freedom now and for
ever." MRS. HENTZ ENTERTAINS
AT BRIDGE LUNCHEON
On Wednesday of last week
Mrs, F. C Hentz entertained her
card club with dessert bridge at
Hotel Edwards. Pansies were used
as centerpieces on the card tables
where dessert was served. Place
cards were pansy bouquets. Des
sert guests were Mrs. Louis Ed
wards, Mrs. Frank B. Cook, Har
vey Trice and Miss Clyde Smith

PRESENTED IN RECITAL
Miss Edith Bolton and Miss Jean
Hood were presented in an organ
and piano recital at the Methodist
church in Commerce, Ga., on May
14, and honored by their parents
with a reception at the Woman's
Club immediately folowing the re
ception, when more than two hun
dred friends caled. Miss Bolton is
the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs.
W. S. Davis of Highlands, who at
tended the recital and reception.

Smith arrived Sunday and are
opening Pierson Inn this weekend.

calaureate sermon at Highlands
school Sunday morning, May 25,
at 11 o'clock, in the school audi
torium. The reading contest and class
day exercises will be given Mon
day evening at 8 o'clock. The class
day exercises will take the form
of ,a short play based on Walt
Whitman's poem, "America is
Seen," a piano selection, "Minute
Waltz" by Chopin, will be given'
by Marie Neely. The girls taking
part in the reading contest are

ie Wright, Alice Lowary and Jes
sie Potts. "
Oh Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock
the graduation exercises will be
held. The literary address will be
made by Prof. P. L. Elliott, teach

Bryson will present a special piano
program, "Second Mazurka" by
Godard. The salutatory address will
ht given by Miss Louise Burnette
and the valedictory by Miss Felicia
Edwards. G. L. Houk, Franklin at

of schools,' will award the diplomas.
The 12 boys and girls graduat

by the two highest ranking stu
dents in the class. Barbara Joellner
holds first place and her subject
will be, "How a Child Can be

Fla., after spending a few days

Wednesday to make their home in
Arlington, Va., for the present,
where Mr. Knight has employment
on a government defense project.

Miss Eva G. Ceaveland of Bridge
port Conn., who usually spends
her annual month of May vacation
with her sister, Mrs. Henry D.
West in Franklin and with other
relatives here, decided to forego
the North Carolina trip this year,
and instead is spending May in
the Ozark mountains. One of the
pleasures of Miss Cleaveland's visit
in St Louis, Mo., was a trip down
the Miississippi river.
Mrs. Herbert Rice and two chil
dren, Polly and Warren, have re
turned to Stuart, Fla., after a visit
with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Har
bison, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hays,
M. and Mrs. John Edwards and
other relatives here.
Mr.' and Mrs. J. E. Hicks had
as their Sunday dinner guests, Mr.
and Mrs. W. W. Kay and small
daughter, Wayne, of Oemson, S.

afternoon the party enjoyed a trip

of the appropriation and condemna
tion by judicial process, for the

scribed bv metes and bounds in
Exhibit "A", and upon map or
plat Exhibit "B" attached to the
petition in this proceeding filed
with the Clerk of the United States
District Court at Asheville, North
Carolina. Tract No. 802, apparent
and presumptive owner being David
Green Heirs, containing according
to survey 94.7 acres, situated in
Macon and Jackson Counties, N.
C, on the waters of Cowee Creek,
a tributary of Tennessee River and
Savannah Creek, a tributary of
Tuckaseigee River, more particu
larly described by metes and bounds
in Exhibit "A-l". and upon map or
plat Exhibit "B-r. attached to
the petition in this proceeding fil
ed with the Clerk of the United
States District Court at Asheville,
