Expansicn Of Service Has Required Extension of Toll Circuits With the increasing demands up on the company's service it has been necessary to add to the perr sonnel. Further improvements throughout the territory are plan ned as the business permits. This company owns and operates, besides the Franklin and Highlands exchange, those of. Sylva, Bryson City, Cullowhee and Clayton, Ga. Macon B. And L. Supported By Citizens It is rare indeed to find in our entire country a financial institu tion dealing in loans and savings which has weathered the financial storms of the past 15 years with out a single loss. Our community is fortunate to have the Macon County Building and Loan, Asso ciation which has made this fine record. Since the Association is a co-operative affair supported large ly by Macon county capital and investing its stockholders' money in homes in the county, the record of this firm speaks for the stable and steady progress which has been made. The Macon County Building and Loan Association was founded in 1922 under the leadership of G. A. Jones, Henry Cabe, and John L. Wright with Mr. Wright as presi dent. At the present time it has assets of over $100,000. During the past ye?r it made 112 mortage loans and 27 stock loans. The mortgage loans were all made to property holders in Macon county. A divi dend of 6 per cent or more has been paid each year to the stock holders since the founding of the Association. Present officers are Henry Cabe, president; R. S. Jones, secretary-treasury. LONG, Proprietor v The rapid growth of the Frank lin and Highlands exchanges of the Western Carolina Telephone company has necessitated contin ued expansion over the ten year period. This includes . enlarged switchboard facilities and improv ed and enlarged outside plant facil ities in the form of creosoted poles and lead covered cables. Considerable increase in the num ber of toll circuits serving High lands and Franklin has been one phase of the progress of the com pany. Tplt circuits have tripled be tween Highlands and Sylva and fan ' additional Franklin-Highlands circuit . established. Also the in creased toll facilities of the South ern Bell Telephone company in this area has provided more toll put lets. The company has met demands for service at the Glenville pro ject of the Nantahala Power and Light company, and has extended rural service to many small communities.
