"Clyde Dendy, son of Mr, and
Mrs. Joseph Dendy, of Gold Mine
community, was a member of the
graduating class of 1940 of Frank
lin high school.' He entered Mount
Berry school for boys at Rome,
Ga., working and studying bne
school year. At the end of his
first college year he answered his
country's call to service under the
selective draft system. He is now
stationed at Edgewood, Md., in a
chemical plant, helping make gas.
Mother Earth has had her thirst
quenched by the continuous rains.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wood and
little daughter have moved from
the "Aunt Louise Dills" house to
the mountain farm they are pur
chasing from Rev. Frank Holland.
Edward Mashburn, ,son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Mashbunn, is at
present assistant 'radio operator at
Army and CCC Headquarters,
Boise, Idaho.

fell spraining her left ankle badly.
Linda Lee, little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Mashbur,n,
has whooping cough.
We are' mighty glad to report
the bad place in the road, not far
from the Mac McCall bridge, was
well graveled recently.

and relatives will be glad to know
she is quite well and happy al
though she has been bedfast for

Mrs. Dillard Saunders and chil
dren were visiting Mrs. Saunders'
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Clark
last weekend. .
Mrs. M. W. Saddler returned
to her home here after a months'
visit with her husband at Raleigh.
She was accompanied here by Mrs.
J. L. Mobly and twin daughters,
Dale and Gale and Miss Betty
Bryson who will Spend three weeks
with . Mr. and Mrs. A. J, Evans
and Mrs. J. T. Bryson.
Mr. and Mrs. John Dalton of
Leatherman are now making their
home with Mrs. Dalton's father,
Mr. Tom Russell.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark and
sons, Zeb, Elmer and Andrew of
Gainesville, Ga., were' visiting rela
tives here and at Sylva last week.

station on the lot he purchased
from Mrs. R. F. Johnson recently.

lands Tuesday night.

Mrs. Lewis Davis and son, Louie
of Philadelphia, Pa., spent the past
two weeks with Mrs. C. L. Stan
field. They were accompanied on
their return by Miss Nettie Mae
Stanfield, who will spend a few
weeks there visiting.

S. C, spent last weekend with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harlie

Mrs. Adam Tippett, of Alarka,
is spending several days with her
son, Jesse Tippett, and Mrs. Tip
pett, and her sister, Mrs. Hattie
Shepherd.
The Vocation Bible School at
Snow Hill ' Methodist church had
a large' attendance, and closed last
Friday. A picnic was enjoyed by

den Club meeting held on Monday

Mrs. R. M. Rimme'r, chairman
of the flower show, and her com
mittee composed of Miss Mary
Willis, Mrs. Frank M. Higdon and
Mrs. W. A. Rogers, are making
their arrangements for the flower
show which is to be held Satur
day, August 16.
