Conley of Franklin announce the marriage of their daughter, Sarah Etta, to John Knox Hunter, of Franklin. The wedding took place at the First Baptist church in Clarkes ville, Ga., former home and church of the groom ; ..the Rev. Guy H. Ran&on, pastor, performing the ceremony. The bride wore an aqua blue costume, with shoulder corsage of gladioli and fern. The groom is the .son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hunter, of Frank lin. He is employed by the Burrell Motor company of Franklin, where the young couple will make their home. ELLIOTT-CRAWFORD Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Elliott of Franklin Route 4, announce the marriage of their daughter, Selma, o George T. Crawford, also of Franklin. The ceremony was per formed by Judge R. C. Ramey at Clayton, Ga., on August 2. The bride was attired in Copen hagen blue lace with white.' The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Crawford. He is now employed by the state. The couple will make their home on Route 4, Franklin. STUDENTS REQITAL AT MACON THEATRE A recital by the students of Mrs. Harry Higgins will be given at the Macon Theatre on Sunday after noon, at 2 o'clock. About 15 young people will take part in the piano, guitar and vocal selections. Miss Bettie Lou Skaggs of.Walhalla, S. C, will be guest pianist. Grant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. .Henson, was entertained with" a household show er at the home of Mr.s. Claude Bradley of Otto on Wednesday afternoon, August 20, from 3 until S o'clock. . Miss Nannie McDowell and Miss Roberta Henson, sister of the bride, assisted the hostess in entertain ing. . After many charming and useful gifts had been presented to the recent bride delicious' refreshments of cake and punch were served to the many guests who had come from Clayton, Franklin and Sylva Claude Patton, of Cartoogechaye, left Wednesday for Canton to take an electric welders course. Wilburn Conley, who has been home from college on a vacatidin will return this week. Mrs. O. B. Thomas and Stevie and Jane Thomas of Richmond, Va., are, visiting Mrs. A. B. Oma hundro. Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Johnson of Orlando, Fla., are spending two months at the Mimosa Apt. in Franklin. Mrs, Wilmer Hall Parrjsh of Etna, who underwent an operation at Angel hospital Tuesday, is re ported to be progressing . satisfac torily. Mr. and Mrs. James Porter are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Porter. Mr. Porter, former organist of the Franklin Metho dist church, will be guest organist at the church next Sunday and Mrs. Porter will also take part in the musical program. Mr. and Mrs. George B. Patton of Raleigh, have been spending the past week in Franklin. During their visit here, announcement has been made that Oscar Bryant has pur chased the home of Mr. and Mrs. Patton on Harrison avenue. Mr. Patton is serving as an assistant to the Attorney General of Nerth Carolina. Miss Eleanor Sloan, physical ed ucational director at the State Memorial college, Lewiston, Idaho, is visiting her mother, Mrs. J. S. Sloan. M, Sutton for the past few days has returned to Fort Jackson, S; C. Roger Rickman who is in the Marines has been transferred from Parris Island, -S. C, to Quantico, Va., spent the past week here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Rickman. . Miss Florence Lenoir of Franks lin spent the weekend with Miss Alice Wallace of Shooting Creek. Mrs. Alex Southards and daugh ters of Sylva spent the weekend in Franklin visiting friends.. Jack Spainhour and J. I). Mal lonee of irphy made a business trip to Franklin last Monday. Miss Alice and Sallie Sue Wal lace of Shooting Creek have been visiting Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Hartley and children, Frank and Ella Margaret of Tampa, are spending a week at Trimont Inn. Returning after sev eral years, Mrs. Hartley said, "We have been to other places in the Western North Carolina mountains, and we have come Back because we like Franklin best of all." The Misses Mary and Louisa Pitkin of Tryon, guests at Trimont Inn for the past two weeks, have returned to their home. They have been returning to Franklin for a number of summers for their va cation. ' ' The Rev. and Mrs, Frank Blox- ham of Lincolnton, their young daughters, Charlotte" Ann and Mary and Mrs. Ida Porter arrived Mon day for a two weeks' vacation. They will occupy St. Agnes rec tory. Their many friends will be glad to welcome them back to their former home. ' Paul Dean, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Dean, received severe burns on his arms and face last week, when a boiler exploded at the City Pressing Club where he was work ing. Mrs. Eugene Bullock and small daughter, Margaret, of Hamlet, are visiting Mrs. Bullock's mother, Mrs. W. B. McGuire. Miss Leeida Beshears and Miss Ruth Dixon have returned from a vacation trip to New Orleans. MrS. Sallie Cunningham Moore made a business trip to Atlanta last week, where she spent several days buying fall merchandise for E. Ki Cunningham and company. Misses Margaret and Martha Somerville of Jacksonville, Fla., and Asheville, have been spending several days with Mrs. J. W: C, Johnson. Mrs. E. N. Hatfield of feoria, 111., is spending a month with Mrs. J. H. Slagle at her home, the Arburetum, on Cartoogechaye. Mrs. E. A. Woodruff of Co lumbia, S. Hjgdon at their home on Franklin Route 3. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. Clark of Atlanta, a son Edward Windsor on August 13, at Angel hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Thad A. Miss Elizabeth Slagle, District Deputy Grand Matron, presided at the meetingVarious phases of the work were given by each Chap ter present and . instructions were given by the Worthy Grand Ma tron, Miss Bessie Gaddy. There were approximately 100 . present from all the Chapters in the Dis trict except Murphy, which was not represented. At the banquet held at Panorama Courts, toasts were given and a special part of the program was the recitation given by little Joan Wilhide, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Wilhide. The evening session held in the Agricultural building was publicand many were present to - enjoy a de lightful program. Vocal selections were rendered by Mrs. Roy Larson of Bryson City and Mrs. Lela B. Hawkins, Grand Organist, who. was accom panist. The Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron, Hawley C. Cobb, gave short addresses and Past Grand Patron, John L. Orr, gave ah address on the Re lationship of the Masonic Frater-' nity and the Eastern Star. Mrs. Martha M. Guyton of Asheville, spoke of the work of the Rain bow Girls. A beautiful flag cere mony was presented and a memor ial service for those who had died since the last meeting was held.
