JUNIORS TO HOLD
HALLOWE'EN CARNIVAL
The officers of the Junior Class
met Wednesday- at noon to discuss
plan for the annual junior Hallo
we'en carnival to be held this year
in the high school auditorium, Sat
urday, October 18, at 8 p. m.
The attractions -of the carnival
include: A beauty contest, spook
house, bingo parlor, cake walk, and
a booth for apple bobbing.
The money collected will be used
to finance the Junior-Senior 'Bani-quet.

A Western North Carolina branch
of the North Carolina Society for
the Preservation of Antiquities,
Inc., was formed at a meeting at
the George Vanderbilt hotel last
Monday!
An advisory committee was nam
ed to recommend officers for the
branch; It is composed of Mrs.
Sadie S. Patton of Hendersonville,
Mrs. F. L. Siler of Franklin,
George W. McCoy of Asheville and
Mrs. R. N. Barber of Waynesville,
vice-president of the state group.
Genral purpose of the group is
to preserve old homes, old letters
and other antiquities. The group
was of the opinion that its first
major project should be to seek
some action in regard to develop
ment of the. museum in the Great
Smoky Mountains National Park.

Bradley, accompanied them and will
remain, for a week's visit. Mrs.
Potts will stop on her return trip
in High Point to visit a brother-in-law,
J, W. Potts.

The .officials and office staff
of the Nantahala Power company
from Franklin were hosts and
hostesses' at the power house after
the cerenio-nies, when guests were
showrs the workings of this mighty
plant, which has been completed
in the record time of 15 months.

Tompkins and H, H.( Gunse, Jr.,
electrical engineers of ' the com
pany who directed the intricate
wirirjg system of the power house.
Many of the guests visited the
dam, five : miles distance from
the power house, traveling over
roads built by the company to take
the place of those flooded by the
lake formed by the Tuckaseejee
river and its tributaries.. One new
road encircles the. lake, high up
on the surrounding hills and joins
U. S. Highway 107.
