Dairymen Requested To Increase Supply The greatest need for increased production under the nation's gi gantic food-for-defense program in 1942 lies in the field of dairying, says John A. Arey, extension dairy man of N. C. State collece. Yet existing facilities for pro duction in relation to probable needs indicate that dairy farmers of the country face a different task in meeting the nltional 1942 .pro duction goal of . 125,OCO,00O,00( pounds,- an increase of 7 per cent over the 117,000,000,000 pounds ex pected to be produced in 1941. However, Jorth Carolina farmers will find the demaind not too dif ficult to meet, .since they have been asked . to increase production by only4 per cent. This year it is estimated that Tar Heel cows will give 1,462,000,000 pounds of milk. Next year their goal has been set at 1,520,000,000. The goal for Ma con farmers is for the increase of 564,000 pounds of milk and an in crease of 110 milk cows. ; At the same time, North Caro linians have been asked to add 10,000 milk cows to their , herds by next year. Next year, the Government has asked that it be jumped to 390,000. The State college specialist point ed out that better feeding and management should bring North Carolina up to its 1942 goal with no trouble. He expressed confidence that cow owners of this state would heed the Government's request and try to do their part in this nation al' defense effort. " Much of the expected increase will be Used at home to improve the health of American citizens, while additional large amounts will be shipped overseas to the British through the Lease-Lend Act. Here's a tip for girls who are waiting impatiently for a proposal from a timid suitor. . Encourage him to join-the Army. A perusal of the records of the 43rd Field Artillery Battalion here at Fort Jackspn indicates that six months of Army life will spur the most reticent swain to ain immedi ate expression of his desire for marital bliss rather than martial bliss. No less than seven member.s of the Headquarters' Battery of the 43rd had the knot tied while, on recent furloughs. " It isn't that the boys dislike the strictly military side of their Army life. 'It's simply the matter of sewing buttons, washing clothes', making beds, and doing K. P. that opens their eyes to the joys of livinc in a sunc little nest, with the "one- and only" in constant at tendance to keep the place proper ly policed. , NOTICE OF RESALE North Carolina, Maccui County.
