Army Physicans
To Examine Draftees
According to an announcemen
by Geraeral J. Van B. Metts, state
director of the selective service,
the present system of examination
for inductio,n into the army will be
changed after January 1, 1942.
The examining physicians of the
various boards and the medical
advisory boards all of whom, serve
without pay will continue to func
tion, serving as a "screen" to eli
minate men "permanently unfit1
for the army, but the final army
examination of registrants from
throughout this area will be conr
ducted in Asheville.
; A considerable number of selec
tees in the past have been reject
ed at the induction center, and it
is explained that the new move is
to avoid having these men sent
to camp and them sent back home
again. : "
The new system is expected to
be put into effect January 1. Men
making up the draft quota for De
cember and January will be ex
amined as before, with the army
physicians examining men slated to
go to camp ii February.

their annual gift to the high
school, the Seniors are selling class
pins to the undergraduates. They
are beautifully enameled in red.

will graduate and his class.
At a meeting of the Junior Class
last week it was decided that a
play would be given by the -class
ira the near future. The play to be
given will be a comedy and will
feature an all-star cast consisting
of members of the class. Casting
will begin next week by the spon
sors and members of the class.
All the school is anticipating the
two-days holiday which will be ob
served this week for Thanksgiv
ing. It will be a welcome vacation
for most of us after receiving our
grades last week. This marked the
end of the first quarter of our
school work. ;
