POSTMASTER WARNS CHAIN LETTER WRITERS Postmaster C. ' C. Potts calls at tention to the penalty attached to chain letters soliciting defense stamps. Mr. Potts said: 'This is to warni patrons that sending such matter through the mails is a violation of the postal fraud and lottery statutes. "Notices are .served upon per sons participating in such schemes, whose names come to the atten tion of the Post Office Depart ment, requiring them to show cause why fraud orders should not be issued against them. Such orders forbid the delivery of any mail to the persons named therein." MISS, NALL ENTERTAINS EPlISCOPAL AUXILIARY Miss Rebecca Nail entertained the Woman's Auxiliary of the Church of the Incarnation at its. postponed January meeting, held last Thursday. The President, Mrs. E. R. Gilbert, led the devotional and conducted the business session. The very interesting program on ''Witnessing In the Christian Fam. ily" was given by Mi&s Nail and Miss Cora Miltimore. A tea hour was enjoyed after the meeting. llie next meeting will be held at the home of. Miss Estelle Edwards. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Edwards entertained with a' family dinner party last Sunday honoring their nephew, Lieutenant Louise A. Ed wards, who left Wednesday for duty at Fort Benning, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Jack M. Hall and small daughter, Joanna, are spend ing this week with Rev. and Mrs. R. B. DuPree at their home near Charlottsville, Va. Mr. and Mrs. John C. Blanchard who have been in Georgetown Fla., for the past six weeks, re turned Tuesday to "Snug Harbor1 their home on Cullasaja Drive. O the way home Mr. and Mrs. Blan chard visited friends in Jackson ville for a few days. Tea hostesses at the February meeting of the Parent-Teacher As sociation were Mrs. W. H. Cobb Mrs. Tudor N. Hall and Mrs. Jack Wilcox. Mrs. W. L. Collins of Green viHe, S. C, visited her sister, Mrs Mary Zachary at the Potts House and other relatives here last week Billy Nail, .student at the Uni versity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, has enlisted in the army and hopes for an assignment in the air corps. At present he is visiting his aunt, Miss Rebecca Nail, at her home on East Main street here. Miss Estelle Edwards was .sub stitute teacher the first of the week for Miss Musch, who was confined to her room' with a cold for a few days. Friends of Miss Winnifred Es- krigge will' be interested to learn that she is now employed in de fense work in Columbia, S. C. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Es krigge, will soon be leaving Co lumbia to spend a few weeks at their home in New Orleans. While in Columbia they have been guests of their daughter, Dr. Edith Es krigge. Mrs. Guy Paul is visiting her daughter and son-in-Law, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Soderquist, in Ashe ville this week. While Mrs. Paul is away Mrs. A. F. Knight, who is here for a visit, is taking her place in the telephone exchange. Reports from Mr. H. M. Bas- com, who has been quite ill at his home in New York City, state that he is now very much improved Mrs. Frank H. Potts is expected to return this week from a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Jay W. Growing plants decorated the rooms. The hostess was' assisted in entertaining by Miss Dorothea Harbison. SHOWER IN HONOR OF MRS. RICHARD C. HOLT Mrs. W. G. Culbertson and Mrs. Earl Crunkleton were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower on Fridav afternoon at the home of Mrs. Culbertson, honoring Mrs. Richard C. Holt. Mrs. Holt is the former Miss Anne Brown of Hartwell, Ga., whose marriage to Mr. Hoh'i was an event of December 30 in Orlando, Fla. The honoree wore a becoming dress of black crepe and was the recipient of many lovely K'fts. Mrs. A. C. Holt received the guests at the door. The valentine motif was carried out in refresh ments and decorations, and a salad and sweet course served by Miss Manila Reese and Miss Doris Potts. Approximately forty friends call ed during the afternoon. RAVENEL LAKE DAM IS BEING REBUILT Construction work is now going forward on the Ravenel Lake dam. replacing the dam that was wash ed out during the August floods of 1940. E. Riddle and Company of Asheville are the engineers in charge of the work. This eight -acre lake is owned by the Highlands Museum and Biological Laboratory and the re building of the dam has been made possible through gifts to the Lab oratory. When it is completed much of the former beauty of Linden -wood Park will be restored, as well as the usefulness of the lake for biological experiments. First : that while we bow in humble submission to the will of an all-wise Providence, we, the members of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Church of the Incarnation, the Episcopal Church at Highlands, of which Mrs. Hall was a member, deplore our loss and desire to ex press our appreciation of her worth as a citizen of our town and show sincere grief over her departure. j Second: That while we realize our loss, we shall ever hold in grateful memory the many merits of our departed friends.
