Farm-Home Week, 4-H
Short Course Cancelled
Shortage? of transportation an
labor have led to the cancetoa
tinn of Farm and Hemic Week
and 4-H short Courses, an.mial
events oi the State College sum
mer calendar, it was announced
by Dean 1. G. Schuub, director
of the Extension Service: He also
mentioned the fact that housing
accomodations at the college this
summer will lie another .problem,
due to tin fact that N. C. State
is on a "war-tunc 'basis'' and will
be used to train l,()0U or' more
technological students for emer
gency work.
One of the main factors in
reaching this dicision is the mat
ter of transportation', With the
very critical situation as regards
rubber, ahl the rationing of gaso
line which will become effective
May 15, the question of transpor
tation becomes a major factor. Al
ready bus -and rail facilities are
riuviiii'g at capacity, and quite of
ten public utilities have to cancel
regular schedules in order to 'take
care of troop, movements.
The matter of labor on the farms
is likewise .of great importance.
Agriculture is called upon to pro
duce more than ever before with
a decided decrease in ( available
labor. Consequently, it is felt that
many farm people would feel it
their patrotic duty to remain at
home to take care of agricultural
production rather than attend meet
ings' of tris kind.
The County 4-H Club encamp
ments at Millstone, White Lake
and Swannanoa will 'be carried out
as planned.

Atlantic City's lights get a romantic transformation as the
Red Cross Motor Corps lends its Dorothy Sbrier to the Boardwalk
Dimmit Squad to cover the lights with attractive cellophane. Tho
effect is to make the city a veritable fairyland of color. In the
background can be seen part Atlantic City's famous Boardwalk and
use on pasture lands, hay crops,
and small grain. For the corre
sponding period of tre previous
year, tie declared, n,-t.i ions or
20 percent superphosphate have
been ordered this year.
"The current transportation sit
uation is making it more difficult
to obtain supplies of limestone
within u .short time after orders
are received," he said. "This situ
ation probably will grow worse as
troop and war materials move
ments plare an additional burden
on railroad facilities."
The AAA official pointed out
that, in placing orders for fall
delivery farmers should give prop
er consideration to the possible
shortage of other materials whicr
now are going for war purposes,
and that meeds should Ibe con
sidered in relation to the war pro
duction program.
Milk Emphasized

Milk is ammunition essential to

The Tire Shortage Has Me Stumped
Each month we men have been
travelling thousands of miles to an
swer trouble calls. The current goes
off in your home, a service man is
called and away we go in our truck
to see what's wrong. In at least 90
of the cases only the replacement of
a fuse is needed.
It has been a pleasure to each
of us in the past to render this serv
ice to you and we would like to con
tinue it, but there just isn't enough
rubber to go around.
Defense needs have first call, so
we must ask that you help us save
tines.
Here is how you can help. When
a light goes out or an appliance
quits on you, you can ordinarily ex
pect a fuse to be blown. You can
very easily replace it yourself. But
before replacing it disconnect the
light or appliance you were using
