C. Ledbetter of Franklin, route two, announce the marriage of their daughter, Blanche, to Gen Batenian, Sun day, August 16, at Clayton, Ga., by the Rev. Frank Godfrey., The bride was attired in a navy blue dress with white ac cesories. She is a member of the 1940 graduation class of Franklin High school. Mr. Batematn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Bateman, of Franklin, route two. He is em ployed with the TVA at Farner, Tenn., where they expect to make their home. They were accompanied to Clay ton by Mr. and Mrs. Bart Fulch er, Huell Bateman, Lorena Greets Hubert Bateman and Maggie Led better, sister of the bride. The couple left immediately for a short wedding trip. . ARTHUR RAMSEY, JR. ATTENDING MICH. CAMP Arthur Ramsey, Jr. is spending two weeks at a St. Louis Mo. feed plant and from there will spend two weeks on the shores of Lake Michigan" at a summer camp. He received this award at the State university by the Dainforth Fellowship, for the out standing member of the Junior class in agriculture. MRS. HIGGINS ENTERTAINS FOR HER MUSIC CLASS Mrs. Agnes Higgins entertained her music class at her home Sat urday afternoon, August 8. .They presented a musical program, af ter which games were played and refreshments served. Those pres ent were : Mary Louise West, Ivan Hopkins, Comnaree Nolen, Doris Dalrymple, Mary Slagle, Nell Waldroop, Ann Wright, Per cy, Wright, Ann Lyle, Gladys Stiles Agnes Stiles, Alvin Stiles, Morris Franks, Betty Sue Gray, Margaret Parrish, Betty Sue Du vall, Mary Lou Liner, Dorothy Scott, May Sue Jones, Tava Mc Coy, Betty Jo McCoy, Mary Sue Potts. Little Miss June Dehart of Brysdn City, who is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Horace Duncan, was also present. MR. AND MRS. ZEB JENKINS HONORED WITH SHOWER Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Verlin Jen kins were honor guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brad ley at a miscellaneous shower on Tuesday evening, August 11. A number of friends and relatives called during the evening, and many useful gifts were received. MRS. MARY K. FLEET VISITS EASTERN STAR CHAPTER Mrs. Mary K. Fleet of Rocky Mount, Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of North Carolina, Order of the Eastern Star, made her official visit to Nequassa Chapter No. 43 Thurs day evening at a special meeting held in the Masonic Temple. Mrs. Fleet's address, based on the wojjo for the year, "Let Us Love One Another,'' and her aim for the year, "Victory Through Self-Sacrifice," was an inspira tion to all present. She also gave many helpful instruction on different phases of the work. Upon her presentation, Miss Virginia Slagle sang as a solo, "Love Eternal" to the Worthy Grand Matron, and at the close of . her address a . very effective and impressive program, "Wishes Five" was given in hr honor by the Marshal. At this time gifts were presented to the Worthy Grand Matron and to Mrs. Mary C. Weatherly of Rich Square, Grand Secretary of the Grand Chapter of North Carolina, to Mrs. Kathryn Daniels of Ashe ville, Grand Ruth of the Grand Chapter of North Carolina, and to Mrs. Edna Fay Lathan of Bryson City, District Deputy Grand Matron of the twelfth dis trict, all of whom accompanied Mrs. Fleet. A gift was also presented Eliz abeth Slagle, Past District Dep uty. Other out-of-town guests pres ent for the meeting were Mrs. Carrie R. Womack, Mrs. Olive Ellis, Miss Leuna Tat ham and Miss Mabel McFalls, all members of Andrew Chapter No. IS, An drews. Mrs. Alice Ray, Worthy Ma tron of the local chapter, pre sided at the meeting. Prior to the meeting the guests were en tertained with a dinner party at Kelly's Tea Room, with 35 mem bers and visitors in attendance. Aim above morality. Be not (im ply good; be good for something -HENRY D. THOREAU. MR. AND MRS. J. L. BARNARD CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING SUNDAY Friends and relatives gathered on the lawn at the home of Mrs. A. B. O'Mohundro Sunday, Aug ust 16, as a surprise in honor of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Bannard, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary August 18. The main feature of the afternoon was the cutting of the golden wedding cake decorated with a miniature bride and groom, underneath which were the figures of their marriage 1892 and the present year, 1942 and if if ty tiny can dles. About 50 guests called dur ing the afternoon and a number of lovely gifts were received. Personal Mention Mr. and Mrs. Albert Enloe of Akron, O., are visiting their fa ther, T. B. Enloe, and family of Franklin, route one. Mr. and Mrs. Stedman Mitchell of Sylva spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ramsey of Iotla. Mrs. Carl Guest gave a mis cellaneous shower in honor of Mrs. D. '.I Johnson at her home Thursday, August 13. Trirty-two persons called during the after noon. Mrs. Johnsom is the for mer Miss Mattie Pearl McCall. Arthur Mosteller of Iotla left Monday to work in the Navy shipyards in Norfolk, Va. T. E. Hitch of Knoxville, who has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. C. E. Thompson, and Mr. Thompson at their home ire the Carolina apartments, has pro longed his visit, as he says, be cause the air of Franklin is the finest he ever breathed. George Tessier, who has been a student at the University of Louisiana in Baton Rouge for the past year, is now visiting his mother, Mrs. Reba Tessier. Vir ginia Tessier, returning from a visit with her brother, is mow at home. W. Neville Sloan of the United Forest Service, Atlanta, is in Franklin this week. Miss Sally Lou Moore has re turned home after spending sev eral weeks with her aunt, Mrs. and Mr. Hearn in Salisbury. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Turner and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sny der of Thomasville spent the week-end with Mrs. Snyder's mother, Mrs. Flora Hurst, of West's Mill section. Mrs. Harry Higgin's music class will give a recital at the Macon theatre 2:30 Sunday afternoon. The public is cordially invited to attend. Mrs. W. J. Waldrop of Mur phy and brother, Hugh Curtis, of Asheville, formerly of Franklin, were visitors here this week of Mrs. C. D. Baird, Sr. and Mrs. Roy Cunningham.
