Rhodes is the son of Dr. and
Mrs. Robert L Rhodes, of Au
gusta, Ga., and is stationed at
Quonsit Point, Rhode Island.

MEETING ON SATURDAY
Hie annual meeting of the
Highlands museum and biological
laboratory will be held Saturday
afternoon at 3-o'clock in the mu
seum building. All members and
friends are urged to attend this
meeting.
BAPTIST PASTOR TO GIVE
FAREWELL SERMON SUNDAY
Rev. J. G. Benfield, whose res
ignation, as pastor of Highlands
Paptist church goes into effect
the first of September, will de
liver his farewell sermon Sunday
morning. He and Mrs. Benfield
leave shortly for their new field,
where Mr. Benfield succeeds the
Rev. George W. Davis as pastor
of the Iotla and Cowee church
es. The Benfields leave behind
them a record of work well done
during their four years here,
which includes the addition of
many members to the church roll
and the completion of a beautiful
stone church building.
Rev. R. B Hamby of Swan
nanoh, with the assistance of
Mr. Benfield, has just closed a
very successful revival meeting at
this church when 10 new mem
bers were received into the church
eight as candidates for bap
tism and two by letter from other
churches.
MRS. SODERQUIST
NEW FACULTY MEMBER
Mrs.'W. G. Soderquist of Ashe
ville is numbered among the new
faculty members of Highlands
school. She replaces Miss Sarah
Thompson in fourth grade work,
who resigned to take a position
as hostess with Eastern Airlines
out of Atlanta.
Mrs. Soderquist is the former
Miss Osceob Everett, and is a
graduate of Highlands High
school and of Western Carolina
Teachers' college at Cullowhee.
Since her graduation Mrs. Soder
nuist has been teaching in the
eastern part of the state. She
will be with her mother, Mrs.
Guy Paul, tor the school term.
MUSEUM BENEFIT
PARTY NETTED $SC
The card party at the home of
Henry W. Sloan netted approxi
mately fifty-six dollars, the par
tv was spoored br the Wed
nesday Bridge club for the bene
fit of Highlands Mil urn, and the
proceeds will be used in defray
ing expenses of the museum work
that has been carried ow during
the summer.
Flowers decorating the home
were from the garden of Mrs.
Earl Crunkleton. High score priz
es were given in each Of the
three room's, where 14 tables were
in play.
About twenty additional guests
were present for the tea hour'
following the game. Club mem
bers and museum members, who
assisted in arranging the tables,
entertair.iing and serving refresh
ments, were Mrs. D. L. Tarry,
Miss Marguerite Ravenel, Miss
Dorothea Harbison, Mrs. W. H.
Cobb and Mrs. Elliott Caziarc.
Included in the $56 were a
number of gifts from friends of
the museum.
Personal Mention
Mrs. Nash Broyles and grand
son, Murray Hamilton, have re
turned to Atlanta, Ga., after a
visit here with Mrs. Roy Potts
and family and Miss Caroline
Hall. Harry T. Hall, district fire
insurance agent of Raleigh, has
also been the guest of his sis
ters, Mrs. Potts and Miss Hall,
for the past several weeks, He
is spending this week with an
other sister, Mrs. Charles J. An
derson, and family, before return
ing to Raleigh.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Zachary
of Shortof f have two sons in the
armed forces, Private Carl Lee,
who entered service last March
and is now in Alaska writes in
teresting letters describing his
trip and the country. The other
son, Sergeant Claude, is stationed
in Oklahoma.
Prf. and Mrs. A. G. Holmes
have returned to Clemson college
after spending several days at the
Potts' House. '
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hodgson
and , daughter, Miss Marguerite
Hodgson, of Athens, arrived on
Sunday to spend a month at the
Edgar Neely cottage on Sotulah
mountain.
Rev. and Mrs. J. G. Benfield
will return this week from a 10
day visit with relatives in Granite
Falls. Mr. Benfield's daughter,
Mrs. F. H. Anderson.,' ana sow,
Dyke, of Granite Falls, were re
cent visitors here.
Friends of Mrs O. F. Schiffli
and family are sympathizing With
them in the death of Dr. Schif
fli at his office in Clewiston, Fla.,
kut week, following a heart at
tack. Dr. Schiffli had owned a
summer home in the Webbmont
section for a number of years and
at ore time was resident physi
cian here for almost two years.
Miss Mozelle Bryson, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. W. A Bryson,
leaves Friday to begin her new
duties as teacher in the primary
department of the Robbmsville
High school.
Mr. and Mrs. William A Ben-
nie have returned to Atlanta af
ter a visit here with Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Bliss and Mr. and
Mrs. George Townsend.
