After a wedding trip to New York, the young couple returned to Springfield to await Cadet Pear son's call to training in the air oorps. He is now stationed at Boca Field, Fla. JUNIOR - SENIOR BANQUET, FRIDAY EVENING The Junior-Senior banquet will be held iait the school Fri<tay evening ,aj}d will be (he navy theme, using the blue and white colors of the senior class. Invited guests will be the high school faculty and members of the school board and their wives. Until r? few years ago one of our civic chd>? and the Forest Service kept these trails open, but, having had no attention for the past several years, they are now in a deplorable state and the Chamber pf Commerce is doing a highly commendable work in reconditioning them, since the real beauties of the town and the sur rounding areas are seen and ap preciated to a much greater ex tent from the trails than from the streets and highway*. MISS WRIGHT GIVES PARTY FOR BARAK WRIGHT Miss Maxie Wright entertained a number of the high school set and other friends with a party, Saturday r.ight in honor of her brother, Barak Wright, who re turned Sunday to N. C State Col lege after spending the spring holidays here with his mother, Mrs. S. A Wilson and family. Games and dancing featured the entertainment. Guests enjoying the occasion were the Misses Jessie and Nancy Potts, Marion Norton, Peggy Potts, Lolita Holt, Barbara joellner, Mar garet Wiley, and the Messrs. Mal colm Zoellner, Dicky and Bobby ' Rice, Mack Neely, Edward Shock ley, Herbert Paul, Bud Thompson and Charlie and Roy McDowell. Punch and cookies were served during the evening. MRS. POTTS HOSTESS FOR CARD CLUB Mrs. C. C. Potts entertained the card club with dessert bridge at the Potts House on Wednesday. Spring flowers decorated the room and centered the dessert tables. Guest players included Mrs. J. E. "Rom, Mrs. Alice R. Bullock and Mrs. Charles Wood. High score club prize was won by Mrs. C. H. Menger ai!d high score guest prize by Mrs. Wood. Miss Sara Gilder was final winner of the travelirg .prize. HORSE COVE NURSING CLASS NUMBERS J* New members from Horse Cove enrolled in the Red Cross home nursing class on Friday were Mrs. W. P. Sloan, Miss Mary Edwards, Miss Grace Carpenter and Mrs. Dara Edwards. Other new members 'are Miss Manilla Reese, Miss Mildred Littleton, Mrs. W. G. Cul bertson, Mrs. Ed Rogers, Mrs. "A. B. Potts and Mrs. H. M. Alley. The class enrollment now num bers twenty-six. Mrs. W. G. Soderquisf lias re turned from Montgomery, Ala., where she attended the pr.e-flight graduation of her husband at Camp Alexander. Mrs. J. S. Higgins was supply teacher during Mrs. Soder quist's absence. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Marett on Thursday were Mrs. W. J, Lunney and Mrs. Boone Moss of Seneca, S. C, who brought a breath of spring with them in a basket of narcissi and jonquils. Mrs. F. F. Merrill is spending two weeks in Miami, Fla., with Mr. Merrill, who is an army en gineer on a defense project at Hia leah. Mrs. Merrill was accompani ed on the trip by Mrs. Emma Wal droop of Franklin. Dr. Jessie Z. Moreland returned Wednesday from Atlanta where she attended the Thomas P. Hin imn mid-winter dental clinic at the Atlanta- Biltmore. Mrs. Richard C. During Miss McCarty's illness her high school classes were taught by Rev. J. S. Higgins. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C Harbi son and two children, Susannah and Christina, returned home Sat urday after a three months' stay in Florida. Mrs. Caroline Cabe who has been quite ill with influenza is re ported to be slowly improving. Mrs. Obe is in her eighty-seven th year. Rev. and Mrs. J. S. Higgins and small son, Oemmie, are attending -a conference of the Woman's So ciety of Christian Service of the Methodist church in Winsto?>-Sal em, this week. Last Rites For Frank Burrell Funeral services for Flunk Bur rell, 19, who was killed instantly in an . automobile accident near Clark esvUle, Ga., were held at the Clear Creelc Baptist church by the Rev. Oscar Nix, on March 23, and burial was in Clear Creek cemetery. Pallbearers were Hubert Wilson, Clarence Wilson, Kenneth Chas tain, Bryan McCall, Alfred Wilson and Turner McCall.
