SOCIAL ACTIVITIES and COMINGS AND GOINGS MRS. ALBERT RAMSEY AND MRS. HARRY STRAIN VISIT THEIR SONS Mrs. Albert Ramsey and sis ter, Mrs. Harry Strain, left Monday for Washington, D. C., and New York. They will spend Thanksgiving with Mrs. Strain's son, Harry, Jr., who is in the army engineers, taking special training at the University of Maryland. Accompanied by Mrs. Strain's son, they will spend the weekend at West Point with Mrs. Ramsey's son, Albert, Jr., who is a cadet there. They will attend the Army-Navy football game played at West Point on Saturday. TV A LIBRARIAN OF BOOKMOBILE IN MACON Miss Blanche Nisler, librarian for the Tennesseee Valley Au thority for Jackson, Macon and Swain counties, who is In charge of the Bookmobile operating in this territory, is spending this week in Franklin assisting Mrs. Frank Murray, Franklin librar ian. Miss Nisler, whose present headquarters Is in Bryson City, travels over the county in the bookmobile and cooperates tlth Mrs. Murray to reach as many readers as possible. She expects to spend one week of every month In the library and with the bookmobile. Formerly rounty librarian living in Springfield, Ohio, Miss Nisler commended the good work of the Franklin library under the direction of Mrs. Murray. SETSER The American Legion Auxili ary held Its November meeting at the home of Mrs. Joe Setsei in the Cartoogechaye communi ty. Eight members were present including Mrs. J. H. Slagle, Mrs C. C. Cunningham, Mrs. Schil ling, Mrs. Lon Dalton, Mrs. Rufe Cunningham, Mrs. John Wasllik Mrs. Gilmer Jones and the hos tess, Mrs. Setser. After the busi ness meeting the hostess served delightful refreshments. H. E. CHURCH ILL IN BOSTON HOSPITAL Friends of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Church will regret to learn that Mr. Church is seriously ill in a Boston hospital, where he went recently for treatment Mrs. Church accompanied hei husband, and is remaining In Boston with him. * | Personal Mention * Terrell and Jewel Parrish have returned to Detroit, Mich., after attending the funeral of their uncle, W. H. Watklns. Miss Marie Cloer, now em ployed in a defense plant in Richmond, Va., is spending a two weeks vacation with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. George Cloer. Mrs. Derald Ashe left Mon day to visit her sister, Mrs. Roy Robinson In Waynesville. She will also visit relatives in Ashe vllle. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Porter will have as Thanksgiving guests their daughter, Mrs. R. L. Jer. ome and little grandchild of Raleigh; Cpl. James B. Porter of Alaska and his wife, Ellen Jane Porter of Ohio. Tom Crisawn of Franklin, was seriously burned about the head, face and eyes by an explosion at the Boie mines Monday morning. He is being treated at the Angel clinic. Mrs. A. B. CMohundro and ' Mrs. James Perry are visiting the latter's sister, Mrs. Sutton, In Atlanta, this week. Mrs. Len Sloan, of Franklin, Route J, underwent an opera tion st the Angel clinic Tues d*r ! Mrs. Van Frazier left this week I to Join her husband In Detroit, Mich. She was accompanied by her daughter, Jena V. Frazier, formerly of Washington, D. C., who will stay in Detroit several weeks. Mrs. Zeb Sumner, who has been very ill at the home of her sister, Mrs. C. T. Blaine, Is much Improved. Mr. Summer Is with her. Mr. and Mrs: Bill Moore will spend the winter at Kelly Inn. Mrs. Moore's many friends are glad to see her out again after several weeks' Illness. Mrs. Lyman Gregory, of Gne iss, is recovering from an oper. ation at Angel clinic. HONOR ROLL OTTER CREEK SCHOOL Otter Creek school reports honor roll for the first quarter: 8th grade: Mildred Medford, Roberta Roper, Beulah Hogue, and Wayne Deweese. 9th grade: Sidney Barker and David Moses. 11th grade: Margie Sue Ayers and Joe Evans. MRS. STANCEL DIES IN S. C. Mrs. Geneva Peek Stancel of , Six Miles, S. C., died in Octo ber at a hospital after a very short illness. She leaves a hus ' band, John Stancel and three small boys. Mrs. Stancel has a host of relatives in this section, and many serving overseas, whose hearts will be saddened to hear of her passing.
