purchaser.
Immediately following the
wedding ceremony, the bridal
party were entertained at a
dinner at the Toccoa Country
Club.

United States Army.
The wedding ceremony was
solemnized in Clayton, Ga.. on
Saturday, January 6, with
Judge Frank Godfrey, officiat
ing.
The bride wps attired in an
Ice blue dress with which she
wore black accessories. She re
ceived her education at the
Hayesville high school.
Pfc. Jacobs is the son of Mr. |
and Mrs. Carl Jacobs, of Frank
lin, and received his education at
the Franklin high school. He
entered the armed forces In
1943 and took his basic train
ing at Camp Robinson, Ark.,
Camp Young, Calif., Camp
Shelby, Miss., Fort George
Meade, Md., .and at Miles Stan
dish, Mass.
Pfc. Jacobs, who was wound
ed in France last summer, was
returned to the States in No
vember, and recently spent Jtiis
furlough here visiting his fam
ily. Following his visit he re
ported to Moore's General hos
pital and Mrs. Jacobs will re
turn to her home in Winston -
Salem.

Betty Peek, daughter of Mt. and Mrs. John M. Peek of Walnut
; Creek section, and North Carolina winner in the National 4-H
Garden Contest, has been awarded a $500 War Bond by the
1 National Victory Garden Institute as junior winner in the Na
| tional "Green Thumb" contest. Betty, who is 15 years old, has
specialized in gardening and food preservation for three years.
Her other 4-H activities include work in foods and nutrition,
j clothing, and in homemaking. She is a member of the Pine Grove
j 4-H Club. Betty did not attempt large scale gardening but spe
1 cialized on keeping her family supplied with a wide variety of
fresh vegetables at all times. She and the other members of the
family canned 527 'quarts of vegetables during 1944 from her
garden.
