Federation To Hold Stockholders Meet Wednesday Macon County stockholders of the Farmers Federation will hold their annual meeting in the Federation warehouse here next Wednesday at 10:30 a. m., according to an announcement by James' G K. McClure, presi dent of the cooperative. Mr. McClure will make a re port on 1945 business at the Franklin warehouse. Either J A. "Scotty' Innes, area market ing specialist, or Jack Gattis hatchery manager, will dlscusf the poultry and egg situation and the possibilities of turkey raising in Western North Caro lina. The Rev. EDITH BYRD, Ass't Clerk Superior Court F14 ? 4tp~-MT Two Macon Men Given Discharges From Navy Two Macon county men, James E. Morgan, ship's cook second class, of Flats, and James H. McConnell, seaman first class, of Prentiss, have been discharged from the navy, according to an announcement received here from the separa tion center at Charleston, S. C. Mr. Morgan, a farmer in civi lian life, entered the service in September, 1943, and won two battle stars during his 10 months' overseas duty. Mr. Mc Connell, who entered the navy in June, 1944, also was a farmer in civilian life. He has 15 months' overseas duty to his credit. 2 Macon Students Make Dean's List At College Misses Emogene Landum and Betty Jane Waldroop of Frank lin are among the 293 students at Woman's college, Greensboro, who have been placed on the dean's list for the work done during the first semester. To make the list, the students had to average "B" or better on their classroom work. Burningtown, with Mrs. Parrish, at 2 p. m., and Otter Creek, at the school house, 2 p. m. It also was announced that Miss- Ruby Pearson, assistant state 4-H club leader, of State : college, will be in Macon county | March 12 to discuss 4-H club I work with local extension work ers. . Farmers Federation Pay* 5% Patronage Dividend A five per cent patronage di vidend has been declared on the business of the Farmers Federa tion in 1945, according to an announcement by James O. K. McClure, president. Mr. McClure said that the dividend will be payable in 4 per cent common stock. The payment is in effect a re fund to each farmer, according to the amount of business he did through the Federation last year. A similar patronage divi dend of five per cent was de clared . last year on the 1944 business of the cooperitive. During 1945 collections of used kitchen fats made up about one-tenth of all this country's production of inedible tallow and grease.
