county in the recent Red Cross
campaign have been announc
ed by Bob S. Sloan, cbunty
chairman.
Of the total amount raised,
Franklin and Highlands na
turally contributed the larger
shares, but Mr. Sloan empha
sized that the "gratifying to
tal could not have been reach
ed without the donations from
every community."
'Franklin's total was $1,562,37.
while Highlands raised $1,538.46.

The Zickgraf company, own

son, Orant Zickgraf, has been
in operation here for about 12
years. During the war, it was
employed exclusively on war
work, and now 75 per cent of
its production is lumber for use
in meeting the housing emer
gency, practically all o( which
1* distributed in Macon county.
It normally turns out about
30,000 feet per day.
The fire was the worst here
since the disastrous blaze of
1940 that destroyed the Bank
of Franklin building.
Lumber production rose coiP
siderably in January and there
were substantial increases in
output of other building mate
rials from 'previous low levels.
