Redden Discusses
Future Of Park
Monroe Redden, candidate
for the Democratic nomination
for congress from the twelfth
congressional district, urges
North Carolina and Tennessee
to move hand in hand in the '?
development of the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park,
"In my opinion. The Great
Smoky Mountains National
Park is the most valuable na- J
tional attraction In Western
North Carolina. More publicity
on a national scale is given to
Western North Carolina by rea
son of this park than any other
attraction we possess.
"It is up to the people to ex
ploit the possibilities of this
treasured possession. It fits in
to the life of this section. We
have long been a tourist center
of wide attraction. Our moun
tains are famous for their scen
ic beauty. The time has come
when we should now ? not two
years "from now ? call together
our congressional leadership of
North Carolina and Tennessee
in order that a program of
progress and development of
this park may be inaugurated.
"There is no reason why
North Carolina and Tennes
see should not move hand in
hand in urging the development
of this park. The people of
both states have a common in
terest in its development.
"I believe this generation is
entitled to enjoy the beauties
and advantages of this park in
substantial- completion. There is
no reason why its development
should be postponed for the
pleasure of other generations.
While America moves forward
industrially, agriculturally, and
on all other economic fronts,
we should not lag behind in
this section because of our fail
ure to take advantage of our
present opportunities.
"The completion of this park
will mean that millions of dol
lars and millions of people will
pour Into our section annually
that otherwise would go else
where. I suggest that we join in
a united front and demand ac
tion now".

To the Citizens of Macon County:
As many of you undoubtedly know 1 am a
candidate for Solicitor of this District. Mr.
Queen, the present Solicitor, is not a candidate
and his term of office will expire this year.
If 1 am fortunate enough to secure the nomi
nation to which I aspire I pledge myself to
prosecute all violations of the law to the best
of my skill and ability, however guaranteeing
a fair and impartial trial to each and every de

It is my firm conviction that the Solicitor
can effect a large saving of taxpayer's money
by presenting each matter to the court as
speedily as possible and not keeping matters
pending 011 the docket and holding witnesses
over from term to term. This I certainly prom
ise to do. I also feel that the people of each
county should have a voice in the management
of court affairs and I wholeheartedly invite
anv person or group of people, in the event 1
am elected, to feel free to discuss matters of
court interest with me at any time it best suits
their convenience.
I am the eldest son of former Judge T. D.
Bryson who is now professor of law and legal
advisor at Duke University. I completed my
legal education at the University of North
Carolina and have been engaged in the general
practice of law since February 1925 and cer
tainly feel that I am thoroughly qualified to
fill the office of Solicitor not only by way of
education but also experience. 1 have lived
and maintained my office in Franklin for the
past seven years and while my family is now
living in Bryson City on account of housing
conditions, I feel that Macon County is my
permanent home.
1 earnestly solicit your vote and support in
