Miss Angela Anderson and her guest, Miss Ella Mae Hick man, have returned to Erskine college, alter a week-end visit with Miss Anderson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Ander son. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Zoellner have moved to an apartment on West Main street. Mrs. Zoell ner has accepted a position in Highlands Drug store, and Mr. Zoellner has been added to Highlands Electric company's force of electricians. Capt. E. A. Niblack of Biloxi, Miss., has returned to High lands and will be joined by Mrs. Niblack, their two sons, and daughters, when school closes in June. ? Dr. Thelma Howell, professor at Wesleyan college, Macon, Ga., and assistant director of the Weyman Memorial laboratory here, pointed out on her re cent visit that the laboratory building has been painted, heating facilities Installed, and the dense growth around the building trimmed out, in readi ness for scientists who come to Highlands for summer work and study. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice G, Field of Miami, Fla., have rented the Hughs cottage for the season and expect to arrive about the middle of June. The Edward C. Moore cottage on Satulah mountain has been leased for the summer by Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Murphy of Palm Beach, Fla., who plan to arrive about June 15. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Zoell ner and baby son have moved to a cottage on the Dillard road at the home of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Cobb. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Taylor and two sons, Walter and John, of Staten Island, N. Y., are vis iting Mrs. Taylor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Crunkleton at their home on the Dillard road. Mrs. John S. Sewell has as her guests Major General and Albert E. Brown, of Clarkaville, Tenn., who are en route to Louisiana for a visit with their daughter. Harbison was re-elected president of the Highlands Parent-Teacher asso ciation at the May meeting, held last week at the school. Mrs. Carl Zoellner, former treasurer, was elected vice-pres ident to succeed Miss Ethel Cal loway. Mrs. W. A. Hays suc ceeds Mrs. Sidney McCarty as secretary, and Mrs. Louis A. Edwards was elected treasurer. The new officers will be in stalled at the first fall meet ing of the school year, Preceding the election, Miss Ethel Calloway's fifth grade presented a playlet, "We Want Mother", with Collin Wilcox as stage manager and announcer. Characters in the play were ) Ourtis Nichols, Sylvia George, Ann Hays, and Jamie Phillips1. A reading, "It Takes a Heap o' Living to Make a House a Home", was given by Mrs. Estelle Stegall, and piano selec tions were rendered by Miss Marion Lester, The framed picture awarded by the P. T. A., as a prize to i the grade having the greatest number of mothers present at the meetings during the year, was won by the fifth grade. Hardee Promoted To Major In Reserve Corps Notice of promotion from cap tain to major in the Chaplains Reserve corps has just been re ceived by the Rev. Robert M. Hardee, recently discharged from Army Chaplain service. Mr. Hardee accepted the pastorate of the Highlands Methodist church a few weeks ago, and has been invited to preach the commencement sermon for the Franklin High school Sunday evening. May 19, at the Frank lin Methodist church. ZOELLNER GIVEN DISCHARGE, RETURNS TO HIGHLANDS Malcolm Zoellner, second class petty officer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Zoellner, has been separated from the navy and re turned home last week. Mr. Zoellner was overseas 15 months and was radio-gunner on a dive bomber in the South Pacific. Since the close of the war he has served as government radio man in Hawaii. He plans to enter Duke university next fall, where he expects to specialize in forestry. summer home on Satulah mountain. Dr. Bruce Daniel Burleigh, member of the Angel hospital staff in Franklin, Mrs. Burleigh, and their two small children have moved to the former Jack M. Hall cottage here on Fifth street, which they have leased for year-round occupancy. Mr. and Mrs. Jack W. Brook way have announced the birth of a daughter, Frederica Jayne, in Wesson hospital, Springfield, Mass., May 9. Mrs. Brockway is the former Miss Estelle Ed wards. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Edwards of Highlands. This is the Brockways' second child. Mrs. Jack H. Wilcox left Sunday by plane from Atlanta for a short visit with her moth er, Mrs. H. D. Randall, in Cin cinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Wilcox and Mrs. Randall will motor to Highlands Friday, when Mrs. Randall will open her summer home on Billy Cabin mountain for the season. Mrs. Harry Holt continues to convalesce at her home on East Main street, where she return ed Saturday following a major operation at the Angel hospital in Franklin four weeks ago. Mrs. Jack Strlbling of Andrews spent the past month with her daugh ter's family while she was In the hospital. Highlands Season Will Be In Full Swing By June 1 ? ? Highlands summer hotels are expected to be open and In full swing by the first week in June. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. King have returned from Avon Park, Fla., and are preparing for their usual capacity crowd. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Otto of Miami, Fla., have arrived at Highlands manor and advise that the Manor will be open Bronze Star Medal Pres.nt:d To Highlands Man Coleman Marshall Reese, for mer army sergeant, son of Mr, and Mrs, J. Waltc Reese, of Highlands, was awarded the Bronze Star medal In exercises at Moore General hospital, near Ashevllle, Wednesday of last week for "meritorious service in connection with military op erations against the enemy from July 12, 1943, to April 22, 1945." Sgt. Reese became a member of the Second Armored division, later nicknamed "Hell on Wheels", soon after it was ac tivated at Fort Benning, Ga., in July 1940, and went overseas in 1942, In addition to Wednesday's Bronze Star, Sgt. Reese holds a Presidential citation, good con duct' medal, E. T. o: ribbon with six battle stars, one bronze invasion arrowhead, American Defense medal, vic tory medal, and German occu pation medal. Mr. Reese is 26 year? old and is married to the former Miss Vera Lucille Williams, of Camden, S. C.
