Mass., became the bride of Kelly Jones, of Ellijay, and Miss Janet Deardean and John Tavares, both of North Brookfield, were united in mar riage Thursday afternoon of last week at 4 o'clock in Clay ton, Ga., with J. C. Green, ordi nary, officiating. Mrs. Jones is a daughter of Harold Cadman and the late Mrs. Cadman. She is a graduate of North Brookfield High school. She was attired in a blue -cos tume and wore white accessor ies. Her corsage was of gar denia. Mr. Jones is the son of Mr. aiul Mrs. Charlie Jones, of Elli jay, and recently received his discharge from the armed forces, after spending several months in service. Mrs. Tavares is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Deardean, and is a graduate of North Brookiield High school. She was dressed in brown, with white ac cessories. Her flowers were gar denia. Mr. Tavares is a son of Mrs. L. P. Hamsen and the late Mr. Deardean. Following a wedding trip to Highlands and a visit with Mr. Jones' parents at Ellijay, the two couples returned to Massa chussetts, where they plan to make their home. Mr. and -Mrs. Joines made their home in Franklin several years ago. when Mr. Joines was head of the Joines Motor company. Miss Frankie Bumgarner, bookkeeper for the Bryant Furn iture company, is spending her vacation with her mother, Mrs. R. C. Bumgarner, at her home at Wilmont. F. B. O'Mohundro, of Pitts burgh, is here for a visit with his brothers, A. B. and R. S. O'Mohundro. Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Higdon, of Atlanta, spent the week-end here visiting relatives. Mrs. R. S. Jones and _?wo children, Richard and Margaret, are in LaGrange, Ga., for a visit of two or three weeks with Mrs. Jones' parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Halman. Ramsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert L. Ramsey, of Franklin, Route 3, has reported to Fort Bragg for service in the army. Mrs. Augustus L. McLean, of Asheville, is visiting her broth ers, Albert L. Ramsey and W. L. Ramsey, and their families and friends here. Mrs. Herbert E. Church re turned to her home on Harrison avenue Tuesday night, after spending 10 days in Nashville, Tenn., where she was called on account of the serious Illness of her aunt, Mrs. H. W. Cherry. Jesse T. Bryson, of Three Forks, Mont., was here this week for a visit with his broth er, Carr Bryson, and family at their home in the West's Mill community. Mr. Bryson was ac companied as far as Asheville by his wife, who was called home on account of the illness cf her father, Mr. Burnette. Miss Helen Seay, who has been under treatment at the Black Mountain sanitarium, Biack Mountain, for the past several months, has been dis missed from the hospital and is now at the home of her sister, Mrs. Derald Ashe, on Harrison avenue. The Rev. and Mrs. W. Jack son Huneycutt and son, Wiley, and Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Man ning spent Saturday in Ashe ville. W. L. Hall, Jr., is spending two weeks in Raleigh with his aunt, Mrs. George B. Patton and Mr. Patton. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Brooks left Saturday for Columbia. Mo., to attend the commencement exercises at Stephen's Junior college, at which their daugh ter, Miss Merrily Brooks, was graduated. Miss Brooks has majored in radio. The poem, entitled "Anno I Domini MCMXLVI", is by Anne I Deal Toomer. Mrs. Toomer is the youngest daughter of the late Rev. J. A. Deal, Episcopal minister here for many years, and of the late Mrs. Deal. The author is a sister of Mrs. T. J. Johnston, of Franklin. Mrs. Toomer, whose poem, "Hell", created widespread com ment several years ago, has had numbers of poems published, and several of her works have been included in leading an thologies. Miss Stockton Wins Honors At Brenau Miss Barbara Stockton, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stock ton, of Franklin, who already had received many honors at Brenau college, where she has been a member of this year's \ junior class, this month was elected to H. G. H. secret senior honor society at the school. Miss Stockton recently was elected first vice-president of the Student Government asso ciation, of which she was treas urer during the past year; is a member of Phi Beta Sigma, a national honorary sorority; and has just been chosen president of that organization for the 1946-47 year. She also this year was treasurer of the union class, and a member of the honor court. She is a member of the national social sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. Births Mr. and Mrs. Louin T. BAIRD HERE FOR VISIT WITH MOTHER Cpl. C. D. Baird, of the army anti-aircraft, is at home on fur lough, visiting his mother, Mrs. | C. D. Baird, of Franklin. Cpl. Baird, who expects to receive his honorable discharge shortly, has been in service for 26 months, more than half of which he spent in Germany. Social Security 1 Representative To Be Here June 7 A representative of the Ashe ville field office of the social security board will be at the register of deeds office in Franklin, June 7, according to an announcement received here. Wage earners who have work ed in a job covered by the So cial Security act since Decem ber 31, 1936, and have attained age 65, may be eligible to file claim for themselves, their wives, or minor children, wheth er they have an account number or not, it is pointed out. Sur viving relatives of deceased workers, such as widows, chil dren, or parents, or if none of the above, persons who have paid funeral expenses, may be eligible to file claim. Ridgecrest Church Plans Decoration Day, Home-Coming Decoration and home-coming day will be observed at the Ridgecrest Baptist church, on the Franklin-Asheville highway, Sunday, June 2, it has been an nounced by the pastor, the Rev. C. C. Welch. Decoration of the graves is set for 10 a. m., after which those present will assemble in j the church for the devotional to be given by Lon Thompson. A period of 15 minutes will be spent in short talks, and at 11 o'clock Mr. Welch will preach. At 11:45 special music will be rendered, after ? which picnic lunch will be served on the lawn. The Rev. C. E. Parker, pastor of the Franklin Baptist church will preach at 1:15, and a spe cial song service will follow. The public is invited. CARL B. BAILEY GIVEN DISCHARGE FROM NAVY Carl D. Bailey, of Franklin, Route 4, ' has been discharged from the navy, according to an announcement received here from the separation center at Jacksonville, Fla. Western counties , of North Carolina will be closed to deer hunting next season while deer trapping and redistribution are being effect ed, according to an announce ment made by John D. Find lay, game and fish commission er. The Board of Conservation and Development adopted the division's plan at the recent meeting in Fayetteville. There will be no deer hunting next year in and west of the line composed of the following counties: Warren, Nash, Edge combe, Wilson, Greene, Wayne, Johnston, Wake, Chatham, Randolph, Montgomery, Rich mond, and Scotland. Explaining the program. Find lay said that, under the pro posed plan, deer will be trapped on concentrated areas in West ern North Carolina and moved into other areas in the western counties which should support deer but in which there are no deer at present. This program does not contemplate moving deer from western North' Caro lina to eastern North Carolina. Dunford On Program Of Scientific Body Mealing In Capital E. G. Dunford, superintendent of the Coweeta Forest Experi ment station, is in Washington attending a meeting there of the American Geophysics union. Mr. Dunford, who left last Friday, read a paper before the union.
