Higdon, of Gas tonia, in a ceremony performed in Clayton, Ga., June 9, with R. C. Green, ordinary, officiat ing. The bride was attired in a light blue dress, and wore black accessories. Her corsage was of red roses. Mrs. Higdon is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rop er, of Franklin, Route 3. Mr. Higdon is the son of Mr. uiul Mrs. Mack Higdon, of Gas tonia. BYRD Mrs. Bertha Ledford, of Franklin, Route 1, has announc ed the marriage of her daugh ter, Miss Agnes Ledford, of Franklin, to Chris B. Byrd, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Byrd, of Franklin, Route 3, in a cere- j mony performed in Toccoa, Ga., I May 24, at 8 o'clock, at the ' Baptist pastorium. The Rev. B. L. Cline, pastor of the First Baptist church of Toccoa, offi- i ciated, using the double ring ceremony. The bride was dressed in an aqua gaberdine suit and wore pink and black accessories. Her , shoulder corsage was of pink rosebuds and baby's breath. I Mrs. Byrd, a graduate of the , Franklin High school, has been employed by the Macon theater here for the past five years, and for the past two years was man ager. Mr. Byrd is a graduate of the Bryson City High school and was graduated from a Mortic ian's school in Boise, Idaho, where he was employed for 10 years before entering the navy in 1942. He was stationed at a hospital base in the South Pa cific most of the time he was in service. He is now employed as mortician for the Moody Funer al homes at Sylva and Bryson City. Mr. Vanhook Is a young farm er of the Prentiss community, and attended the Franklin High school. Accompanying the couple to Clayton were Mrs. Vanhook, mother of the bridegroom, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Guffey, parents of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Vanhook are making their home with the bridegroom's parents. Personal Mention Jos. Ashear returned to his home here last week, after spending a month visiting rela tives and friends in Penhsyl vania, Maryland, and Virginia. Mrs. Robert F. Perkins, of Oelwein, Iowa, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Crawford at their home on the Georgia road. Mrs. Perkins' husband, Captain Perkins, who is now stationed in the Far East, and Mr. Crawford became friends \\hile serving in the army to gether. Mrs. John L. Crawford and small son have returned to their home here, following a month's visit to Mrs. Crawford's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Rose, of Rogersville, Ala. Mr. Crawford, who went to Ala bama to bring his family back home, spent a few days in Rogersville before returning with them. 1st Lt. Lewis S. Patton, who has been here for a visit to his father, R. A. Patton, and other relatives, left last Friday for Boston to reenter Cushing army hospital there for treatment. He was accompanied to Boston by his brother, George E. Pat ton. The latter expects to re turn to Franklin Friday or Sat urday. Mrs. W. W. Landrum and daughter, Patricia, and the Misses Angie and Callie Deal were in Greensboro last week for the commencement exercises at Woman's college of the Uni versity of North Carolina, at which Mrs. Landrum's daughter, Miss Imogene Landrum, was graduated. W. J. Blaine left Monday morning for Atlanta to attend the four-day annual seedsmen's convention. Mrs. Frank Palmer, of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Lex Penland, of Macon, Ga., have been here for a visit with their brother, Sam Jacobs, who is recuperating from an appendix operation. Mrs. Penland also visited her daugh ter, Mrs. Charlie Sutton, and family in the Clark's Chapel community, while Mrs. Palmer visited relatives of her late hus band. Robert S. Brown, of the Farm ers Federation, Asheville, was in Franklin briefly Saturday, en route home after attending a Federation meeting in Hayes ville, where the organization is building a warehouse and store. Mr. and Mrs. J. I. (Tom) Ro land and small son have moved from Franklin to the Double Branches community. Mrs. Leroy Downs, of Frank lin, who recently underwent an operation at the Anderson County hospital, Anderson, S. C., was reported this week to be do ing very nicely. Rufus Pannell, who has been attending the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, is here for a visit with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pan nell at their home in East Franklin. Mrs. Dorothy Saunders, of Richmond, Va., has been visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie A. Cabe, at their home, Franklin Route 2. Little Miss Patricia Tatham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chase Tatham, of Robbinsville, who is spending the summer with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McOaha, at their home, Franklin, Route 3, underwent a tonsil operation at the Angel hospital Wednesday.
