Sloan was hostess to Sloan relatives and a few ' close friends at a picnic supper at Camp Arrowood last Friday evening. Forty-four persons en joyed the family gathering, which was marked by group singing on the piazza in the evening. Mrs. Sloan and members of her family have been spending a 10-day vacation at the camp. Her son, Fred S. Sloan, and Mrs. Sloan and their two children, came from Raleigh, and her daughter, Mrs. James S. Mc Allister, and Mr. McAllister and their two sons, came from their home in Maplewood, N. J. Both families left the middle of the week to return to their homes. Also at the camp in the eve nings was Mrs. Sloan's other son, W. W. Sloan, of Franklin. HIGDONS RETURN FROM / TRIP TO CALIFORNIA Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Higdon and Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Higdon have returned from a six-week visit in Los Angeles and Sacramento, Calif., with their brother, Fred Higdon, and family, and sisters, , Mrs. Harry Straine and family and Miss Hazel Higdon. On their trip they visited the Carlsbad Cav erns, Yosemite Park, and Ju arez, Mexico, where they attend ed a bull fight. Miss T. Sloan, of Atlanta, spent the week-end here with mother, Mrs. J, S. Patton, for the past year general counsel (or the State Highway and Public Works commission, has resigned that position and he and Mrs. Patton have returned to their home on Palmer street here. Mr. Patton will return to Kal eigh for a short time to take care of some untinished busi ness and help familiarize his successor with the work. Upon his return to Franklin, he plans to resume the private practice of law, and has taken the of fices in the Bank of Franklin building formerly occupied by the late Dr. W. A. Rogeis. Baty has bought an interest in the Highlands Super Service Gulf Filling station on the corner of Fourth and Main streets, and is now in charge, it was announced Tuesday. Mr. Baty succeeds W. P. Hedden as operator. Recently the Gulf Oil com pany exercised its option and purchased tjie ground it has been leasing from G. W. Marett for the past several, years, cre ating the unusual . situation of owning the ground as well as the attractive station in a town the size of Highlands. COMPLETES COURSE Pvt. Tyndell L.
