HENSON NAMED
BY G. 0. P. FOR
REGISTER POST
Higdon's Name On List
Given Printer For
General Vote
Ralph M Henson, World War
2 veteran, of the Smith Bridge
township, is the Republican
nominee for register of deeds,
and will oppose Lake V. Shope,
Democrat, the incumbent, in the
general election this fall.
Mr Henson's name late last
week was substituted by the Re
publican county executive com
mittee for that of Charles Bry
an McClure, earlier chosen as
the nominee for register ol
deeds. Mr. McClure withdrew as
the nominee.
The executive committee's ac
tion was taken Saturday, just
prior to the placing of the order
by the county board of elections
for the printing of absentee
tickets for the general election.
Of wide interest here is the
fact that the name of A R.
Higdon is on the Republican
side of the ticket for clerk of
the court. There had been re
ports that Mr. Higdon, the in
cumbent, would not stand for
reelection. He will be opposed
in the general election by J.
Clinton Brookshire.
Except for the change in the
nominee for register of deeds,
the county ticket of the Repub
licans is the same as that an
nounced after a party caucus
the middle of April.
In the state senate race, how
ever, the ticket lists F. Herbert,
of Hayesville, as the nominee, in
place of E. R. Carpenter, whose
name was proposed for that
post at the Macon County cau
cus.
Sloan, service officer, wil be in
Winston-Salem those two days,
he announced this week, to at
tend a conference of service of
ficers.
An agreement has been made
among eastern farm labor lead
ers whereby efforts will be
made to help both farmers and
migrant workers in plans for
harvesting crops in the summer
and fall.

Mrs. Church

to the Oteen library in recent
months, it was reported.
The meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Church. She serv
ed refreshments at the conclu
sion of the business session.
A little foresight in purchas
ing, careful planning or meals,
and conservation in the kitchen
and at the table are just good
sense. It not only makes for
more adequate, well-balanced
diets but in these days it saves
the lives of millions of men,
women, and children who are
dying of hunger over the face
of this earth of ours.
