In Catharpin, Va., where David .secured employment and is re maining for the winter. Miss Sarah Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tudor N. Hall left Monday for Raleigh, where she will be a student at St. Mary's Eoiscopal school for girls. Mr. and Mrs. Jack W. Brock- i way and family are moveing this week into the Edwards cot tage on the Dillard road, which thev have been redecorating for the past month. Mrs. William E. Mathews. Zah ner have as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Linton Reynolds and daughter, _ Eleanor, of Ware Shoals, S. "c., Mr and Mrs. La mar Ager and Miss Frances Agar of Chapel Hill, and Mr. and Mrs. John C. Mr and Mrs. Williahl A. Ben nie of Atlanta were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Bliss at "Tenridge", their summer home overlooking White side view. WELL CHAPERONED Highlands Youth Solves Housing Problem At School; Builds, Takes House Along The housing situation present ed no problem to Bobby ?ahner, son o( Mr. and Mrs. K B. &ahn er, when he wanted to enter Duke university. Not finding a place to live, ne planned and built a three-room cottage at his home here; then unboiled it and carried it by truck to Durham, where his father, brother and others help ed to put it together again on his newly purchased lot. They finished it, even to the painting. The cottage has an 18 x 10 living room, and Bobby has chosen for his partner in house keeping Bud Thompson, son ot Mrs. H. P. P Thompson, of Highlands, who enters the uni versity this month. Bobby and Buddy are ex servicemen and plan to com plete their interrupted educa tion After helping his brother fin ish the cottage, Kenny Zahner has returned to Lawrencevilfe School for Boys In Lawrence ville, N J. ? perhaps with an eye on the future use of the cottage for himself! service in the navy. Rev and Mrs. Alexandei Ken ner have returned to their | home in Wilmore, Ky., after a week's visit with Mrs. Kenser's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W S. Davis. James A. Hines, back from service overseas, is visiting his mother, Mrs. J. A. Hines at Chestnut Burr cottage, follow ing his release from the army at Fort Bragg and a visit with relatives In the eastern part of the state. Mrs. Frank B. Cook and Mrs. J. Harvey Trice left Monday for a trip to Philadelphia, New York and Canada. They were joined in Burlington by Mrs. Bill Jeffries, and the three are making the trip by motor. In Philadelphia, they will visit Mrs. Trice's daughter, Mrs. Richard F. de Lamar, and Mrs. Cook. sister, Mrs. George Harrington, and family Col. and Mrs. W. K. Nollnam and daughter. Miss Catherine Nollman. of Asheville and Se bring, Fla., are spending two weeks at "Springdale", their cottage on Chestnut street, while having some remodeling and re painting done. Mr. and Mrs George Puza hanich of Los Angeles, Calif., have returned home after a visit here with Mrs Puzahanich's mother, Mrs. Clyde Norton and family. Mr. and Mrs S. C. F Summer, prin- j cipal. The Rev. Robert M Har dee, pastor of Highlands Meth- i odist church, spoke to the stu- i dent body at the opening ex- i ercises. The four new members of the faculty this year are Mrs Onnie Cabe of Otto, fifth grade. Miss Burrell of Lake Toxaway. sixth grade; Carl Talley of Highlands, seventh grade; and Miss Ruth j Crawford, of Franklin, high school. Teachers returning are the Misses Veva and Nina Howard. Lois Keener, Virginia Edwards, Marion Lester, Mrs. Annie W Pierson and W. C. Newton The school lunch room has also reopened, with Mrs. Ruth Beal again in charge, assisted by Mrs Lew Crunkleton and Mrs. Dora Zachary. 133 Members Join Library In Campaign The closing of a successful membership campaign for the Hudson Free Library associa tion was reported by Mrs. Ralph M. Sargent, president of the as sociation, at a recent meeting of the trustees, held in the li brary building. Mrs. Sargent announced the addition of 77 new regular members with dues at one dol lar a year, and 56 associate members with dues at five dol lars a year. The results of the summer benefits given for the library were reported as most gratify ing, in view of the necessary ex penses to be met, two of the larger items of expense being the painting of the outside of the building and the painting of the root. For the first time in the his tory of the Hudson Free library, sufficient funds were available to make a budget for the com ing year, which was presented and adopted at the meeting.
