12 at 8 p m., with the Rev. Mr.

double ring ceremony, in the
Indian Head Nazarene church.
The bride was attired in a
cocoa-brown gaberdine suit wilh
aqua and cherry-coke accessor

Mr. and Mrs. Efton Dudley,
cousins of the bridegroom, were
the only attendants Mrs, Dud
ley wore a yellow dress with
blaek accessories, and her cor
sage was of red roses.
Mrs. Kendrick is a gradnnte
of the Lackey High school at
Indian Head, class of 1945. and
since that time has been em
ployed as business manager of
iier father's store in Indian
Head. j
Mr. kendrick is the son of
Mrs. Alice Lee, of Astoria. Ore.,
and the late Stephen N Ken
drik, of Washington, D. C., and
Maryland He: served 38 months
in the U S. army, 14 months of
which was spent in the Euro- i
pean theater, with the famed |
90th division. He attended |
schools in Washington. D. C.,
and Maryland, and is a gradu
ate of Nanjemoy High school,
class of 1942.
Immediately following the
wedding ceremony Mr. and Mrs
Kendrick left on a wedding trip
North, and upon their return
will make their home at Poto
mac Heights, Md., where Mr.
Kendrick is employed as an
automobile mechinic.
Mrs. Kendrick i.s a grand
daughter of Mrs Charles Raby
of the Oak Grove community,
and a niece of Mrs. Ed Whit
tington, Franklin

ed training. He is now taking
radio training.

an operation for the removal of
her appendix at the Transyl

Miss Mary Alice Rickman, of

returned to Bessie Tift college,
Forsyth, Ga. Miss Rickman is

Mrs. Elsie Graves, of Ida, La.,
is spending several days with
her mother, Mrs. Eva Brendle
and her uncle and aunt, Mr
and Mrs. R D. Brendle, at their

Mrs. James A. Porter has been
quite ill following a fall suffer
ed a few days ago. She is con
fined to her room at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Jack
Sherrlll, and Mr Sherrill, but
her condition is reported Im
proved.
Mrs W. B. McGuire, who has
been visiting her daughter. Mrs.
Eugene Bullock, and Mr. Bullock
In Hamlet for the past few
weeks, spent the week-end at
her home here, returning to
Hamlet Sunday She was ac
companied here by her son
William B. McGuire, of Char
lotte.
Sol Sanders, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Sanders, arrived last
Friday for a visit with his par
ents. Mr. Sanders, following his
recent graduation from the
iournallsm school of the Uni
versity of Missouri, visited New
York and Washington, prior to
coming home for a visit. He
plans to take a position with a
newspaper In Arlington. Va
Mrs. T. J Johnston Is In
Charlotte, visiting her sister,
Mrs. John Toomer. She expect
ed to be met there by her son,
Hugh, who only recently was
discharged from the army.

Clifford Tallent, who is work
ing in Oastonia, spent the week
end with his mother, Mrs. Tal
lie Tallent, at her home, on
Franklin, Route 3, returning to
Gastonia Tuesday.

ter, Miss Mollie Trantham, who
haie been spending the sum
mer months at their home in
the Gneiss community, left this
week for Jefferson City, Tenn.,
where they will spend the win
ter.
Mr. and Mrs James Israel and
daughter, Linda, of Candler,
have been visiting their cousins,
Mr. and Mrs Homer Greene, at
their home, Franklin. Route 1.
On their return to Candler,
they were accompanied by Mrs
D. C. Greene, of Franklin, Route
1, who is spending this week
there visiting relatives and
friends.
Mrs. Lewis Smith, of Canton,
spent Tuesday here visiting her
aunt. Mrs. Frank Sanders, who
has returned to her home from
the Angel clinic where she was

Cancer Division
From funds received In Macon
and other North Carolina coun
ties in its 1946 campaign, the
North Carolina division of the
Field Army of the American
Cancer society has contributed
! $25,000 for the setting up and
operation of a division of can
cer control in the North Caro
lina State Health department.
Announcement of the grant,
which was authorized at a meet
1 ing of the Field Army's execu
tive committee, recently held in
Raleigh, has been made by Mrs
