NEWS about PEOPLE Mrs Laura McCracken, of the italibit Creek section, who has been critically ill for the past month, underwent an operation at the Ansel clinic Sunday. She is reported improving. Mrs. Ed Harney, of Franklin, underwent an operation at th> Angel clinic Tuesday. Her con dition is reported satisfactory. John Arnold, of Prentiss, und erwent an appendix operation Wednesday at Angel clinic, lii-v. R. H. Holden, ivho und erwent an operation at Angel t-linie some weeks ago, is now greatly improved and is ready to be discharged. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Howard and young daughter, who have been making their home ir. Charleston. S. C., for some time, have returned to their home near the Georgia State line: George R. Mr. McGlamerv was sec ond from the top in the size of his vote. W. E. (Gene) Baldwin, reelect ed chairman of the board of county commissioners, won over J. D. Bumette, qf Highlands, by a count of 3.105 to 2,381. The lat ter figure, however, does hot in clude Mr. Burnette's vote in Cai toogechaye, which had not been reported. The unofficial vote in the races for two memberships on the board of county commissioners stood: W. \V. Edwards, Democrat, crat, 2,956; J. W. Roane, Demo crat, 2,980; Clyde O. Morgan, Republican, 2,364; and C. W. Henderson, Republican, 2,452 ? with the Republican vote in Car toogeehaye not reported. The vote for coroner stood' O. L. Blaine, Democrat, 2.974; Hen ry Coi'bin, Republican, 2,482. Dan K. Moore, of Sylva, unop posed Democratic candidate for solicitor, received an unofficial vote of 3,194, and John Dalton, unopposed for the post of county surveyor, had an unofficial total of 2,979. In most cases, the Democrats carried Franklin. Highlands, Smith Bridge, Cartoogechaye. unil Cowee townships, and the Republicans the other seven ? Millshoal, Sugarfork, K 1 1 it a y . Dixon, assistant county 1 agent, in commenting on the year's 4-H club work cited the following highlights: The clubs In this cotinty rais ed $700 for their cabin at the ! new Mountain Experiment sta tion?the first county to raise its quota; 13 delegates attended the 4-H short course in Raleigh; 14 girls participated in the county dress revue, four attend ed the district show in Ashe ville, and one girl entered the dairy food demonstration held in Asheville; 13 boys showed dairy calves at the Junior Dairy show September 13 and three 4-H boys entered beef calves at the Fat Stock show October 24; and 4-H church Sunday was ob served by all clubs May 26. Plan Stewardship Series Of Services At First Baptist A series of stewardship serv ices will open at the First Bap tist church Sunday morning and continue through next Friday evening, it was announced this week by the Rev. Charles E. Parker, pastor. Services on the general theme of stewardship will be held each evening, Sunday through Fri day. On the latter night, the deacons of all the churches in the Macon County Baptist asso ciation are invited to be guests of the deacons of the Franklin church for an afternoon service at 5:30 o'clock, supper at 6:30, and an evening service at 7:30 idate for state senator. Kven if you do not wish to make a business call just come bv for a friendly visit. Lake V. Shope, Register of Deeds Death Takes Elias J. Frazier, 84. At Son's Home Elias Jenkins Frazier, 84, died at the home of his son, Van Frazier, Franklin, Route 1, last Friday morning, following an illness of 11 months. Born in Oconee county, S C., the son of Ransom and Myra Nicholson Frazier, he moved, with his parents, to Haywood county in his early boyhood, later moved to Jackson county, and in 1903 came to Macon County. Mr. Frazier, a farmer, married Miss Martha Jane Buchanan, ol Jackson county, in 1888, and they had 11 children. Funeral services were held at j the Clark's Chapel Methodist church Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, with the Rev. D P. Grant, pastor, officiating, as sisted by the Rev. W Jackson Huneycutt, pastor of the Frank lin Methodist church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Hilliard Frazier, Dilliard Frazier, Wade Frazier, Jr., Tom Frazier, James McCall and Arthur Robeson, all nephews. Surviving are five sons, Van, of Franklin, Route 1, Jim ana l Steve, of Mount Vernon, Wash., 1 end Wade and Lush, of Hobbs, N. M.; two daughters, Mrs Ellen i Anderson, of Hobbs, N. M , and Mrs. Pearl Ledbetter, of Frank lin. Route 1; two brothers, Wade \ H. Frazier, of Waynesville, and P. L Frazier, of Salem, Ore ; , and 13 grandchildren. Potts funeral home was in | charge of the arrangements. Announcements have been re ceived here of the birth of a daughter, Frances Elizabeth (Betty), to Major and Mrs W N.
