Kelsey Seeks To Make Park Of Noted Peak Harlan Kelsey, whose father wus closely associated with the early history of Highlands, Is conducting a private campaign lor lunds to buy Grandfather mountain, near LinviUe, so that it can be given to the federal government for development as a national park. Mr. Kelsey, a botanist, has long resided at Boxford, Mass., but is a native of Western North Carolina. Fearing that the famous mountain inevitably will be iuobed of much of its beauty under private ownership, he has tome back South to seek its l^uicliase and preservation as a l.-aik. Already Governor Cherry and former Governor Broughton have promised him help in ob taining an appropriation from the general assembly, and he believes the remainder of the Uti5.000 price can be obtained bv private subscriptions. The National Park service has agreed to take over the moun tain and incorporate it into the uiue Ridge parkway Mr. Kelsey served on the com missions which succeeded in, creating the Great Smokies, the Shenandoah, and the Mammoth Cave national parks CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank everyone for every kind deed and every expression of sympathy shown us in our recent misfortune when our barn and stock was destroyed by fire.
