Root was nostess at a two-table bridge party Tues day and Wednesday afternoons In the Tuesday afternoon game, Mrs. Sum Baty won high score prize and Mrs. Elliott Caziarc the low score prize Honor guest prize was presented to Mrs. Alice R Bullock, who has re cently returned home after an extended visit In Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. E. R. Gilbert won high score prize in Wednesday's game, and Mrs. Tom Harbison the low score. Personal Mention Miss Pat Rogers, of Atlanta, was the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Westbrook at their cottage on Martha's lane. Mrs. Helen S. Brundage left Saturday to return to her teach ing in Marjorie Webster Junior college, Washington, D. C., after spending a few days at the home of Mrs Elizabeth Prince on Fourth street. Following their return from Mexico City, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Appley have been spending some time with their daughter. Miss Mary Appley, in Miami, Fla Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. And erson and their daughters, the Misses Anne, Mary Deas and Jane Anderson, left Friday for j a vacation in Hollywood, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Tudor N. Hall were called to Atlanta last week because of the serious illness of their sister, Mrs. Nash Broyles, whose condition U reported to be slightly improved. Mr and Mrs. Earl Crunkleton attended the funeral of Thom as Ford Reid, held at the Meth odist church in Cashiers Sat urday afternoon. Mr. Reid h^l been caretaker on the Lupton estate at Sapphire for the past 27 years, and was well known in Highlands. Miss Peggy Appley, student at St. John's school in Waynesville, spent the week-end here with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Cook and daughter, Beverly, left Sunday for Dothan, Ala , where they will visit Mrs. Cook's sis ter, Mrs. C. M. Ling, and fam ily. From there, Mr. and Mrs. Cook plan a trip to Palm Beach and other Florida cities. Mr. and Mrs. Butler Sterling Harkins, of Oxnard, Calif , have innounced the birth of ada?<;h ter, January 30 in Oxnard. Mrs. Harkins is the former Miss Bess Hines of Highlands. Mr. and Mrs. W. S Davis have as their guest for the month of February, Mr. Davis' sister, Mrs. W. R. Harper, of Beaumont, Texas. Other week- [ end guests were Mrs. W. W. Highlands Boy Scouts Enjoy Camp At Lumpkin Seventeen members of the Highlands troop of Boy Scouts enjoyed a camping trip at the Scout camp, Camp Lumpkin, at the '"foot of Wayah Bald, last week-end Assistant Scoutmaster William (Bill) Swain and James A. (Jim l Hines were in charge. A feature of the week-end was a hike from the camp to the top of Wayah, a distance of 10 miles, each way, and a climb of approximately 3,000 feet. Hugh Gibson and small daugh ter, Ardeth, of Atlanta Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wright and two children, of Green wood, S. C., were week-end guests of Mr. Wright's mother, Mrs. Helen Wilson, and family Miss Ethel Calloway returned to Atlanta Monday after a week-end visit here with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cal loway Visiting Miss Calloway in Atlanta for several days this week was Miss Marion Norton of Highlands. Among the guests registered at Hotel Edwards over the week-end were Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Hammett, Sr., Mr and Mrs. L. O. Hammett, Jr., A. L. Todd, and Mr. and Mrs. George Dunn, all of Honea Path, S C. Mayor and Mrs. W. H. Cobb spent Sunday in Hendersonville, visiting their daughter, Miss Marna Cobb, a student at Fas sifern school. Richard L. Aeck of Atlanta, architect for the T. M Cook summer home on Whiteside mountain, was a week-end vis itor in Highlands, stopping at Hotel Edwards. J. Harvey Trice and W. C Ball returned to Thomasville, Ga., Saturday after a week's visit with Mr and Mrs. Frank B. Cook, going by way of States boro, where Mr. Trice has busi ness interests. Col. Elliot Caziarc spent sev eral days in the Angel hospital in Franklin the first of the week, receiving treatment for an infected finger. Say: "I Saw it advertised in The Press." Potts, who personally solicited contributions from ihe business firms and a number of individ uals, have announced raising slightly more than $302 00. O. F. Summer, principal of Highlands school and manager of the school theater, reported a total of $218.10. Of this amount, Mr. Summer said taui in the march of dimes drive iiu S theater collections were $122.61, and the contributions by stu dents and teachers amounted to $95.49. Mr. Summer added that the school children seemed intense ly interested in the drive thii year. Changes Announced In Highlands Barber Shops H. E. Marshbanks, pastor of Kettle Rock Baptist church, who has been operating the High lands barber shop on Main street, is moving into new quar ters in the Fourth street build ing owned by Dr. C. E. Mitchell. The new shop will occupy that part of the building recently vacated by Cabe's radio shop, and is expected to be ready for opening in the next two weeks, following extensive repair;, ai u redecorating The Highlands barber shop on Mairf street will be operated by James Crawford, who bought it the past summer and who will complete a barber course in At lanta February 15.
