STORY SATtLAH CLUB TO HOLD .?IEETIMj KK1DA Y AFTERNOON The Satulata club will hold its April meeting Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the club rooms in the Library annex, it has teen announced by the presi dent, Mrs. Elizabeth Prince. Mrs. Prince stressed the impor tance of a full attendance, since plans for the summer are to be made at this meeting. Personal Mention Mrs. O. E. Young and daugh ter, Miss Mary Elizabeth Young, stopped over in Highlands Thursday and Friday of last week, en route from West Palm t>eacn to New York City, where Mrs. Young will do spring buy ing for Wits' End Gift shop. Miss Margaret Harry, of Greenville, Ga., former High lands Red Cross nurse, Is ex pected to arrive this week-end to attend the Thompson-Mc Neely wedding, and will be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. l>avis during her stay here. Mrs. John B. Westbrook has returned home, after spending a few days in Atlanta, where she was the guest of Miss Pat Rogers. Mrs. A. D. McKinney and daughter, Mrs. Vel Rives, of Birmingham, Ala , will be among the out-of-town guests attend ing the Thompson-McNeely wedding on Saturday and will be guests of Mrs. McKenny's | sisver-m-iaw, Mrs. ii. r. tr. Thompson, and family. Miss Marna Cobb, who has been visiting the Misses Flor ence and Kathleen Saussy, in Columbia, 8. C., arrived Sunday to spend the remainder of the spring holidays with her par ents, Mayor and Mrs. W. H. Cobb. Miss Cobb returns to Fes silern school at Hendersonville next week. Mrs. J. E. Root has returned home from a four weeks' visit with relatives in Charlotte and in Dillon and Charleston, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Holt and family are planning to spend Easter Sunday in Andrews with Mrs. Holt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stribling. Dr. Thom N. Carter, pastor of Highlands Baptist church, left Tuesday to attend the three-day State Sunday school convention in Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hager, Jr., who have been spending the winter in Babson Park, Fla , are expected to return to their home at the toot of Sunset moun tain early next week. , Miss Theioui Howell, of Wes leyan college?! arrived Tuesday to spend the. Easter holidays, and is a gusst at Hotel Ed wards. Mr. and Mrfc Frank B. Cook and daughters, the Misses Mary Bascom and Beverly, left Wed nesday to spend Easter week end In Akron, Ala., with Mrs. Cook's mother, Mrs. J. R. Hol brook. They expect to return to Highlands Monday. Miss Ruth Carter entertained with a small dinner party Sat urday night, honoring Miss Mary Jungerman, of Cincinnati, who was the week-end guest of Miss Jean Keener at her home on Flat mountain. After dinner the group enjoyed the dance at Helen's Barn. Mr. and Mrs. Tudor N. Hall returned Monday from a week end business trip to Atlanta. LOUIS EDWARDS CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR'S POST Is First To Announce In Highlands Election Louis A. Edwards has an nounced his candidacy for may 01 of the Town of Highlands. So far Mr. Edwards is the only candidate to file for the election to be held on May 6, when a mayor and five alder men are to be elected. Mr. Edwards is a graduate of Clemson college, and is the own er and operator of Highlands Woodwork shop on Main street. He entered the army as first lieutenant in World War II, and was promoted to captain early in his four and a half years' service. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards and their son, Louis, left Monday for a two weeks' vacation in Florida. Episcopalians Plan Good Friday Service A three-hour Good Friday service will be held at the Epis Junior-Senior Banquet Held At Highlands The senior class colors, laven- I der and green, were used In decorations for the junior-senior candle-light banquet Friday 1 night at the school lunch room, v/hen Victory Wood acted as toastmaster and Bill Lewis re sponded. Junior girls who made short talks on "Candle-lighting time" were Edna Norton, Annie jNix, Sue Hicks, Dorylas Pickle j simer, Dolly Wilson, Ann Ander son and Gladys Negly. Students assisting in serving were Mar tha Holt, Kathleen Potts, Ed Talley, Harry Holt, Jr., Bud Houston, Charles Wood and Mary Phillips. With practically all the jun iors and seniors having birth-' days in March and April, the banquet also was in the nature oi a birthday party. Two birth day cakes were baked by Mrs. H. P. P. Thompson and deco rated by Mrs: Charles J. Ander son. Having two mathematicians present, Principal O. F. Summer and W. C. Newton, the classes decided to have them cut the cakes into the requisite num ber of even slices for serving. The hand-made place cards were in the shape of candles which opened in the form of a book, revealing the program, the menu, class oflicers, and two pages for autographs. Victrola records furnished the dinner music. After the banquet, the two classes and their guests were entertained with a theatre party by Mr. Summer. Guests were members of the scnooi committee ana ineir wives, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Me Carty, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Bry son, Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Potts, and Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Anderson, high school teachers and their "wives, Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Summer, Mr. and Mrs Carl Talley, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Newton, and Mrs. A. W Pierson and Miss Ruth Crawford. Senior class officers include Bill Lewis, president; Evelyn Phillips, secretary, and Regina Burnette, treasurer. Junior class officers are Victory Wood, pres ident; Ann Anderson, secretary, and Dolly Wilson, treasurer. * Mrs. H. P. P. Thompson was chairman of the banque* com mittee, assisted by Mrs. W. A. Program Of Easter Music Planned At Highlands Churcli A special Easter program of music will be given at the High lands Presbyterian church Sun day morning. On Sunday after noon at 3 o'clock the Sunday school will hold an Easter egg hunt on the church lawn. Miss Martha Holt is chairman of the egg hunt, and will be assisted by Miss Elizabeth Newton and Miss Ann Anderson. Way Given Promotion To Lieutenant Colonel Professor William Way, Jr., head of the University of Tenn- i essee's transportation depart- : ment, school of business admin istration, has been promoted to lieutenant colonel in the army reserve transportation corps, it has been learned here Mr Way, whose home is in Highlands, served in the army from 1942 until December, 1945, and held the rank of major at the time of his separation from service.
