Sloan was honored with a surprise party last Sat urday, on the occasion of her birthday. Mrs. Sloan spent the day away from home, and her daughters, Mrs. Reby S. Tessier and Miss Tim Sloan, of Atlanta, who was here for her mother's birthday, arranged for Mrs Sloan to return home about the time the guests began arriving. On her arrival, she found not only many of her friends, but a birthday cake, bearing 18 candles and the figures "18" so arranged that, read the other way, they showed the figure "81". Mrs. Brownlow Addington, of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Sloan's granddaughter, had charge of the guest book, and Mrs R. G. Beshears and Mrs. Gilmer A. Jones poured tea.
