Mr. McMillan's hobby is the
finding of precious stone's, parti
cularly rubbfts.
Having heard and read a
great deal of the mineral"
wealth of Western North Car
olina and particularly the cor
undum region, Mr. McMillan
located in Franklin and procur
ed options on properties owned
by Weaver Gibson and Will
Holbrooks on which abandoned
miaes were located.
In the past two months, he
says that he has found stones
of undertermined value which
may when cut, prove to be
worth large sums of money.
Mr. McMillan plans to leave
for New York soon, where he
will have samples of his find
ing assayed as to their true
worth. If the reports are fav
orable, he will return and open
the mines on a larger scale.
Rowan County is now one of
the state's leading growers of
purebred Hampshire hogs.
