In Red Cross Swimming, Life-Saving Classes Enrolled in the recently es tablished Red Cross swimming and lile-saving classes being held at Arrowood and CUffslde lakes and the Franklin golt course swimming pool are 44 young Macon County persons. Largest enrollment is In the junior life saving courses under Instructors Dick Mehrhof, Prank Plyler, and Bob Rogers, with 22 participating. In the beginners swim class, 16 persons are learning to swim under Instructors Neil Mooney and Ann Lyle. The Intermediate swim class, under Frank Plyler at Cllffslde lake, has an enrollment of eight. Tuesday evening was the highlight of the Chapter's year, when Mrs. Nell Porter, of Ashe- I vllle, worthy grand matron, and Dr. J. Howard Brown, of Tar boro, worthy grand patron, paid their official annual visits to the order here. Other distin guished guests present were Mrs. Athalea Brown, past grand matron and wife of Dr. Brown, Mrs. Mary Swan, of Andrews, district deputy grand matron, and Gordon L. Butler, of Nan tj.hala, district deputy grand patron. Mrs. Grace O'Mohundro, worthy matron of Nequassa ' chapter, entertained the guests, together with some of the offic ers of the local chapter, at a dinner at Kelly's Tea room prior to the evening meeting. At the Glenville district meet ing Thursday, all phases of th< work of the order were exem plified, and Nequassa chapter gave the balloting. Mrs. France McGlamery, of Franklin, acted as district secretary for the meeting. Those attending from Nequas sa chapter were Mesdame. L. McGlamery. Ellijay Little Miss Joan Mincey, of El lijay, returned home July 25, from Angel hospita}, wearing a cast covering her entire body. Several of her school mates vis ited her at the hospital July 24, her birthday, and gave her a surprise party, bringing many gifts. Fred Mincey, of EUijay, left July 18 for Warren, Mass., where he is engaged In carpen try work. Claude Jones, former ly of Macon County, employed Mr. Mincey, by mail, to come to Massachusetts to build his new home. The Ellijay quartet, Walter young, Fred Young and Mr. and Mrs. Grady Henry, attended the Homecoming day at the Speed well Baptist church, Speedwell, last Sunday.
