And Mrs. James Wurst was appointed to teach at Clark's Chapel. The Slagle and Allison-Watts situation provoked considerable discussion, and Bob Sloan, mem ber of the board, questioned the desirability of this change, but agreed to the plan when Mr Houk assured the board that there is sufficient room at the Slagle school to accommodate the four upper grades from Al lison-Watts. Mr. Houk suggested that the school bus line should l}e ex tended about two miles up Jones Creek road in any case, to pick up High school children, and that it could transport the children from -Allison-Watts to Slagle Last year, he said, the "membership" In the-fout- upper grades at Allison-Watts was 12. In suggesting the Gold Mine Higdonville consolidation, he pointed out that the Gold Mine building is in poor condition, and that there was room on a bus already being operated to transport the children from Gold Mine to Higdonville, The Gold Mine school has been op crated, he said, for '22 children. The board authorized Mr Houk to enter into a contract with S. H. Lyle, local insurance man, for a blanket liability in surance policy on the approxi mately 2.000 Macon County children transported on school buses. Applications for the business were filed by Mr. Lyle and Grover Jamison. The board voted to hold its next meeting at 10 a. m. Mon day, September 1. Last-minute changes, supple menting and superseding the teacher assignments made Sat urday, were announced by Supt Houk Wednesday, on the eve of the opening of the schools. Miss Lollta Dean, instead of going to Slagle. was sent back to Kyle. Mrs. Glee G. Nolen goes back to Slagle, instead of to Allison-Watts. Miss Esther Seay goes to Kyle instead of to Otter Creek. Carl Talley goes to Otter Creek in place of Miss Seay. The other member of the Kyle faculty is Miss SteUa Mc Coy Mr. Houk also announced that Mrs. Clinton Johnson has been named to the Franklin high school faculty in place of a new teacher who was elected, but resigned. Two of the three vac ancies in the Franklin school, he added, have been filled by the appointment of Mrs. Marie Stewart and Mrs. Ruth Slagle Ross.
