At Home On The Farm With The City Ccusin While my interest was run ning hot on cold storage plants, I decided I'd take a look around one last week. While it was a chilling experience, I learned about how Tar Heel farmers are relying on these Maple Breeze Farm November 4 at 1:30 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. Hayes Crisp, who have been at Hampton, Va., for several months, , are now visiting relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hedden and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Hedden made a business trip 'o Ellijay Saturday. 1 fast-freeze establishments In this age when nearly everything Is done a little bit faster than it used to be. Over In Brunswick county, I ran across this new and well equipped locker plant, and an interesting sidelight that dem onstrates how County Cousins live at home on the farm. With my teeth chattering, I was led through the chilling and freezing rooms where fresh meat is turned to red stone. Whole carcasses of beef hung on hooks, and my guide pointed to one in particular. "That's a two year-old steer," he says, "brought in last week by a farmer out in Waccamaw township." "Is that so?" I reply, as my banes begin to stiffen and I ' began to realize what they mean by deep-freeze. "Xep." he comu back. warm ing up to his subject, "and It's the fattest beef we've handled since we opened." Then he went on to tell me that the steer was grown entirely on lespedeza grazing and stacked hay. "It never received a pound of feed from the barn during Its two years of growth," he explains. | About that time I was hur rying out the heavy doors, as fast as my quick-frozen mus cles would propel me. I was thinking, nevertheless, about that Brunswick county farmer i who grew his own meat without the help of store-bought feeds. And how high steak is going to : be this winter, frozen or other I wise. . It has been thoroughly dem onstrated that mineral matter is necessary in the ration of dairy : cattle. .
