Horace Sellers
Funeral Held H-.re On
Last Wednesday
Horace (Doc) Sellers, 60, who
came to Macon county from
Haywood county in 1918, and
has made his home here ever
since, died Oct. 6 at the North
Carolina Baptist hospital in
WinstoivSalem. Mr Sellers had
been taken there a few days
before for treatment.
Born in 1883 in Haywood
county, he married Miss Maude
Slagle shortly after coming to
this county.
He is survived by his wife, one
son, Leon Sellers; one sister,
Mrs. Sam S. Green; and two
brothers, Wesley and Robert
Sellers of Clyde, one step-child,
Mrs. Reba Miller, of Franklin,
and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held at
the Prentiss Church of God,
with the Rev. H. S. Hehnes, pas
tor, and the Rev. James Sanders
conducting the service. Burial
followed in the cemetery of the
Louisa Chapel church.
Pallbearers were Ernest Moore,
Fritz Henderson, Elbert William
son, Floyd Potts, William Shope,
and Will Cheeks.
Bryant funeral home was in ?
charge of arrangements.

Funeral services were held
October 5 (or Eugene (Monk)
Boston at the Franklin ceme
tery at 3 p. m.
Mr. Boston, a carpenter, was
a life-long resident of Macon
County having been born here
October 10, 1888, the son of the
late Mack Boston and Mrs. Bos
ton, of Franklin. He died In a
local hospital on October 3.
Oraveside services were con
ducted by the Rev Charles E
Parker, pastor of the Franklin
Baptist church, of which Mr.
Boston was a member.
Pallbearers were bob Gillespie,
Roy Tallent, Elmer Roten, Ted
Gillespie, J. 8. Worley, and H. E.
Waldroop.
Survivors include his widow,
the former Miss Belle Leather
wood, of Macon County; four
sons, James, John, Mack, and
Wiley of Franklin, and Burt of
Kansas City, Mo ; his mother,
Mrs. Mack Boston; one brother,
Will Boston, of Mt. Vernon,
Wash.; and one sister, Mrs.
lGordie Mashburn of Franklin.
Burial arrangements were
handled by Bryant funeral

Complete Red Cross First
Aid Instructions Course
Four Franklin persons were
certified by Ellis D. Fysal, reg
ional - field representative for
the American Red Cross, as
qualified first aid instructors
following their completion of
the 30-hour instructors' course
in first aid. The course ran
from September 22 to October 2.
Those receiving instructions,
certificates were Miss Anne Ray,
Carl Tysinger, Eb. Bullock, and
Mac Ray Whitaker.
In keeping with the first aid
and water safety program spon
sored by the local Red Cross
chapter, these instructors will
teach first aid classes here in
the community.
At present two classes are
planned for the boy scouts; one
in junior first aid for boys from
12 to 14 and one standard first
aid course for all boys 15 years
of age and over. The Nantahala
Power and Light company and
U. S. Forest service also plan
courses to train their own per
sonnel in first aid and accident
prevention.

Undernourished's
Teeth Are Better
A study showing only about
30 per cent as much tooth de
cay among badly nourished peo
ple as among well nourished is
published in the Journal of the
American Dental Association by
Louis. S. Block of Louisville.
He studied the cases of 223
patients. Of these, 124 were
known to be deficient in nutri
tion. These malnourished had
an average of 2.07 tooth surfaces
decayed; 1.60 teeth missing; and
0.96 tooth surfaces filled.
The well nourished had an
average of 3.21 surfaces decay
ed; 2.23 teeth missing; and 9.75
tooth surfaces restored. Dr.
Block said this gave the, mal
nourished an incidence of decay
burn, Emmitt Dills, and Her
bert Bateman.

BUI Gibson died in the Angel
hospital Sunday morning as the
result of an automobile acci
dent near Clayton, Oa., Satur
day night. Six other men have
been taken to hospitals here as
the result of week-end acci
dents.

to come to Franklin to majte

live. Mr. and Mrs. Zachary, the
