Coffee Spanish Cream I cups milk 1 cup double strength coffee 1 envelope (1 tablespoon) un flavored gelatine % cup sugar M teaspoon salt I egg yolks 1 teaspoon vanilla 3 egg whites Sliced peaches, canned or quick -frozen combine milk and coffee In top of double-boiler; sprinkle gelatin* over mixture; cook over hot water, stirring occasionally, until gelatine dissolves. Add sugar and salt. Beat egg yolks: add hot milk and coffe* mixture to beaten yolks. Return to double-boiler; cook, stirring con stantly, until rjightly thickened. Add vanilla. Chill .until syrupy. Beat egg whites stiff; (old in. Pour Into individual molds which have been ringed in cold water. Chill until Arm. Unmold on serving plates. Surround with sliced peaches. Yield: 8 to 10 Individual molds. Postmistress Never Worries About Republicans, Nor Did They Worry About Her i MERRY HILL. ? "I guess those Presidents just didn't pay much attention to the Merry Hill post office," said Mrs. Sallie H. Ad ams, retired postmistress, as she sewed diligently on a patchwork quilt and reminisced over her 38 years as an employee of the Post Office department. Mrs. Adams, who claims to be a "Bertie County Democrat," be gan her job as postmistress for Merry Hill when she was ap pointed to the job during the Republican administration of Theodore Roosevelt. The job continued through the terms of eight U. S. presidents, five of whom were Republicans. She retired on the first day of 1947, having reached the re tirement age and having served continuously since May 12, 1908, when she succeeded the late Dr Burton Hathaway. During the entire time she served as postmistress, Mrs. Ad ams did not take a single day's vacation, and at the time of her retirement she was entitled to 217 days' vacation credit and ' On the job at the small cross 72 days of official sick leave, roads post office nearly all the time, Mrs. Adams said she never missed time from her job on account of illness and even when two of her children were born after she took over the job caring for the mail, "I still did a lot of work they brought over to the house for me to do." She said she knows of many cases in her community where she has handled the postal busi ness of at least five and some times six generations. "In 1908 the Merry Hill post office was a fourth-class office," she said. "But in 1944 the office was made a third-class office. I real ly can't say that the population has increased around here very much since X took over the post office, but people just do a lot more reading and letter writing than they used to do. "When X started out as post mistress there were only two people served by the Merry Hill office who subscribed to a daily paper, W. R. Smith ? he's dead now ? and Tom Allen Smith wick.
