NEWS *- PEOPLE MISS SHIELDS GIVEN MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER Mrs. Myrtle Cunningham and Mrs. Pauline Houston entertain- I ed with a miscellaneous shower Tuesday evening at thy home of Mrs Cunningham, at Rogers Hall, honoring Miss Annie Lois Shields, of Franklin, bride-elect of Ernest Childers, of Whittier, whose wedding" took place yes terday at 4 p. m at the home of Miss Shields' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Shields, of Frank lin, Route 3. The house was beautifully decorated with mixed fall flow ers The honoree was the recipient of many attractive and useful gifts from the large number of friends who called. The hostesses served delicious refreshments. MISS ROLAND BECOMES BRIDE OF C. LEATHERMAN The marriage of Miss Betty Jean Roland, of Leatherman, to Carl Leatherman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dock Leatherman, of the same; community, October 25 has been announced by the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Roland. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C. C. Welch, pastor of the Cowee Baptist church, at the Roland home, with the single ring ceremony being used The home was decorated with chrysanthemums and other fall flowers. For the wedding, the bride wore a light blue wool garbar dine suit with a white crepe blouse Her accessories were black.' Mrs Leatherman received her education at the Franklin High school and at Oak Ridge, Tenn. Mr. Leatherman attended the Franklin High school befort joining the marine corps in 1942. He spent lour years in service in the Pacilic area ant attained the rank of sergeant oeiore being discharged in March, 1946. Immediately following the wedding, the couple left on a short trip through North Caro: lina and Virginia and after their return will be at home at 29 Ravenscroft drive, Asheville. WOMAN'S SOCIETY WILL MEET WITH MRS. COOK The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Frank lin Methodist church will meet with Mrs James Cook, on Main I street, this (Thursday) after I noon at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Grant's daughter, Miss Doris Mae Grant, graduate nurse of Statesville, is at home to nurse her mother during her illness.
